The fastest man in the world disappoints football fans
The retired Jamaican athletics legend Usain Bolt disappointed Tuesday by revealing that his "signature" with a football club was nothing more than a charity match for UNICEF at Old Trafford at Manchester United.
Bolt, who has not been in hiding for years, has been on high alert since Monday in the media and through social networking sites. "I've signed up with a soccer team," he said.
The "disclosure" came in a short video posted by Bolt through his Twitter account, promoting a charity match for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) at Old Trafford on June 10.
The proceeds of the game, which includes celebrities including the British singer Robbie Williams, to help children at risk around the world.
Following his anticipation, Bolt, 31, was criticized by Twitter followers. Many expressed disappointment with the announcement, believing Bolt had signed a contract with a professional football club.
"This is the damned announcement?" One user commented. "That's all there is to it." A third user said Bolt was "manipulating all Internet users and sports media."
Bolt, who retired after the World Athletics Championships in London last year, did not hide his passion for football.
He announced last January that he would be in Borussia Dortmund in March.
"My biggest dream is to sign with Manchester United," the world record holder said in the 100m, 200m and 8x Olympic golds.
