RE: Handbags at Dawn - When Footballers fight their own teammates

in #football5 years ago

It's not football related, but there was a pretty well publicised dressing room
altercation between Simon Katich and Michael Clarke, in which Katich reportedly grabbed Clarke by the throat.

Despite being a prolific Teat runscorer at the time, Katich was axed from the national team the moment Clarke assumed the captaincy from Ponting

Wasn't that over the singing of a song? I guess Katich was more of an old-school traditional Test player and wouldn't have seen eye to eye with Clarke on quite a few things

Yeah, pretty much. Clarke was the young prodigy of the team at the time, and was a bit impatient to keep things moving to a local nightspot.

Mike Hussey and Katich, being of an older generation were happy enough to celebrate in the rooms, and seeing Clarke becoming agitated, were happy to delay the singing of the team victory song.

Once Clarke caught on to what they were doing, he gave them a bit of spray, using language that by own admission was probably a bit too far. Katich took exception to it and the rest, as they say, is history.

Both Clarke and Katich rarely miss an opportunity to take potshots at each other in the course of their respective media duties either.
