Profile of Callum Hudson-Odoi. Why are Chelsea and Bayern Munchen desperate to secure his signature

in #football6 years ago (edited)

Callum Hudson-Odoi has often been in the football news lately. Although, sadly for him, it wasn't often that he has been talked about for recent performances on the pitch. Although the player has impressed in the brief opportunities he has been given, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has regularly reduced him to a substitute place on the team.

With that in mind, the winger demanded a transfer. Bayern moved in, offering over 35 million pounds for his transfer. Other clubs from La Liga are also supposedly interested.

On the other hand, Chelsea looks determined to hold the player still. This decision may also be affected by news that the team risks serious transfer related sanctions in the near future, following Fifa investigations.

But why is the 18-year-old so highly in demand. Let's take a closer look. For a more detailed analysis please check our full-length article here

  • One of the best players of his age

Scouting reports suggest that Hudson-Odoi has the potential to become a world-class talent. The same scouts also say that few players of his age have the abilities the winger currently possesses.

  • Pace

Hudson-Odoi's pace is deadly and he uses this to take on opponents, move past them before creating space for his run, or for a teammate to move into an attacking position.

  • Good technique and physicality

The winger's greatest performances so far have come in the Europa League. In the matches, he has been used he has shown to have great technique that he can use to keep hold of the ball or to move past opponents. His strength also helps him hold on to the ball even in tight areas.

  • Passing

A perfect match for Bayern's style, the winger's passing stats speak for themselves. He usually averages around 90% successful passes while playing in a tricky position. The English forward usually likes to play as a winger and cut in. He then attempts to pick out difficult and useful passes to his teammates that are on the attack.

  • Weaknesses?

Hudson-Odoi hasn't yet shown to have man faults to his game. With that being said, Maurizio Sarri has identified areas in which the youngster can still develop in. These include his level of fitness, his tactical knowledge, and his defensive strength.

What kind of name is that? Anyway, I hope he gets transferred to Bayern. Chelsea clearly is not doing so well.

I think that would have been a good fit for Hudson-Odoi. But, Chelsea has decided to block the transfer. If he doesn't get more playing time, I don't see him sticking around after the summer.
