The Four Absolutes: Various Cultural and Religious Ideologies

in #fourabsolutes14 days ago

The four absolutes (honesty, purity, unselfishness, love) are a set of moral principles from the Oxford Group and early Alcoholics Anonymous. It is believed that these ideals are to be used as guides to determining behavior in recovery.
In Confucianism and Buddhism, honesty is a fundamental virtue. 'Ren" or benevolence emphasizes the need for truthfulness, sincerity, and selflessness.

Part of the philosophy in Hinduism rests on the concept of "path of union through action" which encourages selfless actions with an attitude that is not influenced by likes or dislikes. Lord Krishna said, "Therefore, without being attached to the fruits of activities, one should act as a matter of duty, for by working without attachment one attains the Supreme." \

In Christianity, it speaks about speaking with honesty and integrity. Saint Augustine believed that love is hands that help others, feet that hasten to the poor and needy, eye which look to misery and want, and ears that hear the sighs and sorrows of others. He emphasized in his teachings and philosophy to love others as oneself.

I encourage everyone to take time out today to focus on helping someone. Listen to what someone else is saying. If you can help someone, be selfless today. Speak with truth and integrity. Don't be attached to the restraints of this world. Don't let societal ideologies tell you who you need to be. Be greater than those who try to pull you down.

Peace and love to all
