Even on a good day, I would have a hard time attributing any value to many of the meme posts on there. From what I've seen, about 80~90% of the meme posts are blatant plagiarism. Ripping comics and jokes from other sites and reusing like crazy. I've called a couple people out and said that it's not that hard to come up with an original 8-word joke of their own, but most people aren't having it.
I haven't paid ANY attention to how the dmania account upvotes though, but I'm not overly surprised that it's doling out to it's own sock-puppet accounts.
Its pretty broken. I create my own memes - gives me something to do and think about with my morning coffee - its a bit sad though when I see what gets upvoted by the bot or makes it to trending. As you said its not that hard to make a 8 word joke!

I've used it - mostly just to see what it's about - had no idea about the wide spread abuse - spent the last few days doing lots of digging- a lot of the top accounts that use it are pulling in HUGE rewards - the award to effort ratio is so off kilter - do you have any suggestions for balancing things out?

Frauds are so typical on the all type of services. I was earning money 2 years ago on pay per install model , and there were many people who installed apps on own phones on differents ip. They thought : easy money , but on the end of month ban was comming faster than payout XD . It is normal , because people always want cheating... There's no way to change this because people are incorrigible.
Plagiarism is a major problem on the internet today.
They don't care if original or not they Just vote

how do you fix it, though? The comment section of that post is a war zone and all the supporters of zombie, mainly those who got fat upvotes, are out there swinging. they don't care if it's broken, so long as they still get their keep. Essentially, its a feudal relationship, and the king has a lot of knights.
Better curation and thinner votes, the fact they lost most of their Steemit Inc delegation will help with the second part.
