Do you feel Free? : Part 1 of 14

in #freedom7 years ago
One day, a man was looking at a program on a News station.  The announcer mentioned something about a battle that was going on in a distant land far away from the United States of America.  She said that a platoon of soldiers were killed after a land mine blew up a supply truck carrying fuel.  He sat back in his chair and took in the devastating news.  It isn't like he hasn't heard of this type of thing before. He was in the military many years ago, thankfully in peace time.  My guess is that the news of what had happened came at a time when he was in the right mind to truly "listen" and not just "hearing" it.

You know how one's mind races when you hear news of any kind.  His raced to reflect on the lives that were lost. The families that lost love ones.  Friends that will miss them.  Then it hit him!  Why are we over there fighting for freedom for here in the U.S.A.?  He heard so many people, on a daily basis, talk about how they can't do this or have to get permission to do that.  Then he thought, "Why don't I, we, feel free"? Of course he can speak for himself, however based on all the complaints, moans and growns of others, one can deduce that they felt the same way he did.

Then he wondered, if it isn't true freedom, then what type of freedom is it. Or is it freedom at all?  It didn't take but a few seconds for him to realize that there is only one type.  FREE! is FREE! There isn't any other type, spectrum, phylum, species, variety, shade, or hue.

Then he thought, "Why should I ask this question?  Does it really matter?"  He wanted to just shut the idea out of his mind.  "The bravery and sacrifice of all fallen, and otherwise, soldiers all over the world", he thought.  "What of them? Was it all in vain?  For nothing?  All that served their perspective countries, did they go through all they did for nothing?"

He remembers his grandfather's ways.  Grandfather used to act and react to things so differently than others do today.  Didn't have drivers licences or birth certificates.  One, back then, didn't have to get permission from the state, city, or government to get married, really?  What happened to separation of church and state thing?  Earn a living without taxation.  Own land without taxation. The right to travel freely and unencumbered.  "One can't take a right from a man, create a licence and then make a man pay for it." he said.  "To pursue life, liberty, and happiness."  These are the things that he has heard all his life and knew to be true.

Well, he thought, all people have different perspectives on what is freedom and otherwise.  He believes what he was taught to be true, however others have different beliefs and that is just the way it is.  "No one can tell another man/woman what to believe in, right"? He laughs.

All this freedom talk can make a man hungry.  "I am going to go and see if it's okay, by the wife, to have a slice of cake".

He only cares that, what is right and just, should be.  "Thinking about freedom isn't enough", he thought.  Not knowing if one is truly free is very subjective. Freedom really only matters to those who had enough, and feeling that they aren't truly FREE.  Is not knowing worse?  Hummmm.

I would rather know. And you're right, I do say sometimes that I don't feel free.
