Getting old and how to cope with it?

What is the essence of being old?
I don’t mean on side effects at all. Being old doesn’t mean just suffer from arthritis, slow walking or having a dental prosthesis. As a wise man said the key point about being old is the lack of perspective. I would also say it’s a state of claustrophobia. Can you imagine it? There’s no way in front of you. You can’t rewind time and just go back, except in memory - your only poor time travel machine.
If you are still relatively young, life looks like an endless field full of existential possibilities.
That’s exactly what being young feels like. Having a lot of possibilities and time.A vague feeling of remote death, like it’ll never come. Having a lot of time to accomplish all your desired goals. You must be familiar with that flavor of life!
But in the claustrophobic state of old age, there is no time-scape in front of your eyes. No room for plans. No possibilities. You’re trapped in a cage and you can do very few things inside. Claustrophobia grows. Space becomes narrower with every breath. It’s the end of your lifetime, and nothingness is about to grind up your existence. It’s very frustrating and lead to depression.
How to cope with such a life, with the sword of Damocles over your head, expecting every new day to be the last one?
Let us try to find our salvation in the place we least expect.

You are over 85 and still not hooked on drugs? What are you waiting for? 100?

The bad reputation of drugs is based on it's destructive side effects. But what can you lose if you are already 90 and not being blessed with Alzheimer's disease? What can you lose, except your pain and depression?Another wise man said:
If you are young, you are crazy if you do drugs, if you are old you are crazy not to do it.
Doing drugs as something evil in itself is a culturological myth based on the fact that there are people, mostly young ones, who literally misuse drugs in the act of self-destruction.
But narcotics in itself are not good or bad. Those are only drugs and it’s up to you to find the right way to use it.
When you are old, long term poisons are not poisons anymore because there is no time for them to become poisonous.
If you would be able to use narcotics best potential, WITHOUT NEGATIVE EFFECTS, then – bye bye depression!
It sounds scary, but... @thinkagain! Eliminate all biases and fears our culture loaded into you, and you’ll find a pure thing given to your experience in all its beauty.
Taking drugs is completely consistent with your wish not to be in pain and depression. Your feeling of claustrophobia disappears not because time cage becomes bigger, but because you don’t care about it anymore. Yeah, people, you just don’t care about it!
I wish you long life and happy old age!

You know I've never actually thought about that. That's given me a new perspective into old age.

I think though, old people were and are the ones majorly against (illicit) drugs, The government pushed anti drug campaigns for their entire life, and only now just loosening it on marijuana, so I think it would be harder to change their mindset.
