Day 100!!!! - Freewrite History and a Contest of Sorts
Day 100 - Can You Believe It?
100 days of a daily prompt - I barely can believe it!!
First off, I want to thank all 175 of you who have participated in this - what shall we call it? Some call it pure fun, others call it madness and often I see us called the freewriting zoo. All spoken with love, of course!
For those of you who are newer to the freewrite - let's take a short walk down the memory lane. Soon after I started here on Steemit, I thought about posting a daily prompt. I always enjoyed this kind of writing exercise and some great stories had their beginning in the free flow of a freewrite. But it seemed so much work!
Then, I came across a post by @improv and it was the freest freewrite I had seen in a while. And I saw a few more on his profile. That was great!! Here was someone who obviously really liked this way of having fun. So, I asked him if he wanted to start a daily prompt initiative with me. A few messages back and forth and the first prompt hit Steemit.
That was the beginning of something great!! Nothing we could have imagined even in our wildest dreams!!
You all took to freewriting like ducks to water!!
The freewrites let a lot of us to share quite a bit about ourselves. The comments on each other's work started to be more - and longer and longer. We shared more of ourselves and before we knew it, we were considering our fellow freewriters our friends.
A community was born which is getting stronger and stronger every day. Keep watching this page. Great things are brewing to be revealed in the near future!
Milestones in this Freewriting Story.
One day, we all woke up to a post by @omra-sky and found that many of us had moved together into a house called the old Steemian's Home. If you haven't read it, you simply must! Click here
But don't stop there!! This post was just the beginning! Several of the freewriters began to spin all kinds of tales of the adventures of the Old Steem Home's residents. Here is @brisby's take on the steem home saga.
@snook contributed quite a few of the adventures and has become the architect of the home. Check out her many videos where she is showing off what she created. And you don't want to miss her latest creation where the story is told from a different viewpoint altogether.
Many of us started to read our stories and post them to DTube. Check them out and maybe add your own.
That is pretty impressive, right? But wait! Here comes @byn and decides to uplevel this freewriting adventure even more. She went to an open mic night and did a live "freewrite" in the spoken form!! That takes a lot of guts and she was fantastic!! Read her blog post about her adventure here
But that is not all!! Quite a few of you started to write ongoing stories, using each prompt to bring the story a little further along. That is difficult! Very difficult. @deaconlee @fireawaymarmot @svashta @kcoyote @mr-neil and more have challenged themselves to do this. Great work, you all!!
100 Day Special
Since this is Day 100 of the daily prompts, I thought we make it special!
We have prizes!! Yay!!
10 SBD and the SBD payout of this post will be shared among those who are taking today's challenge!
@brisby and @deaconlee have ea contributed 5 SBD.
If you want the pot to grow, you can upvote this post and/or send SBD to my wallet with a note:

The Challenge
Today, I am asking you to find a partner and do a freewrite together. Yes, you heard me right! Together!
There are three ways to do this. They require a shared document. Goggle doc is a free option. @snook wrote an excellent post explaining how to share a document if you have never done this. Here is her post
Option 1 (instructions written by @brisby)
How to Play:
- Pick a partner and open up a shared Google doc. here is how
- Decide who will begin writing.
- Prepare a timer for each writer. Alternate writing for 1 minute each.
- Use the word “Go” to let the other know that it was their turn.
- Use the prompt provided.
- Put the word/phrase at the top of the page.
- The first freewriter sets a timer for 1 minute and begins writing.
- When the minute is up, type the word “GO” to let the next writer know to begin.
- Carry on, alternating turns, until 10 minutes have passed (each has written for 5 minutes).
- Combine the sentences (cleaning up the formatting and removing the “Go’s” if you wish).
- Place the “cleaned up” version of the story below the exercise.
- Submit the link and then enjoy reading that day’s freewrites!
Option 2
- Pick a partner and open up a shared Google doc. here is how
- Decide who will begin writing.
- Set a timer for 10 minutes.
- First freewriter writes one sentence.
- Then, the other freewriter writes one sentence.
- Switch back and forth until the 10 minutes are over.
Option 3 - this option is especially good if you can't find a time which suits both writers
- Each freewriter writes a 5 minute freewite.
- Exchange the freewites.
- Write 5 more minutes on the partners freewrite and finish the story.
You can both publish the freewrites and if you want, add a bit on how that kind of writing felt to you. Was it fun? Difficult? Want to do it again?
How to find a partner
Leave a reply to this post: Partner wanted. If you want to partner up with that person, leave a reply and say so.
- @brisby and @snook volunteered to be beta testers for this newest version of the freewrite adventure. They brought great dedication to this task and when you read their story, you can feel how much fun they had!!
Here is their shared freewrite.
Take the challenge and leave a link to your posts in the comment section and you are eligible for a share of the price. You have until Friday, February 2, 6PM Pacific Time to post the URL to your post.
Only partner freewrites are eligible.
Prices will be distributed after the payout for this post.
Prompt: It was Saturday morning...
Use this phrase It was Saturday morning as the beginning of the freewrite
- Set your timer for 5 minutes
- Start writing
- Use the hashtag #freewrite
- Publish your piece (include a link to this post if you wish)
Copy and paste your URL into the comment section of the prompt post.
- Or, if you don't want to publish your freewrite, just copy and paste as a comment under the prompt post.
If you don't know what a freewrite is, here is a link to the introduction post.
Here is @snooks excellent tutorial on how to join our freewrite adventure
And @improv's input:
Two things I do a little differently. I just type "timer" into google and it pops up a 5-minute timer. I also type directly into steemit. I also rarely use a photo, don't I? So that's three things.
Of course, you can do a freewrite on your own and you will still get an upvote from me.
But this is a good time to make a friend!
Watch tomorrow's prompt for another new feature of this freewriting community.
Here are the names of everyone who has done at least one freewrite. Maybe you see a friend who hasn't written with us for a while and you can ask them to partner with you. Or ask your mom, your daughter or son, your neighbor - heck, a stranger in a coffee shop. Partner freewriting is double the fun!

Here's one that @littlescribe and @svashta partnered up on:

Here's one of the ones @brisby and I did! https://steemit.com/freewrite/@improv/saturday-5minutefreewrite
Wow, you two did great together. It was almost like you'd both done it a dozen times. The part where you finished each others sentences was epic.
Words, even!
Lol loved that part too.
@improv, make sure you come check out my Guess What I Am Contest. Here's the next one. Winner gets the loot.
Checked it out, and it looks like some folks have figured it out! An excellent bit of fun!
You guys are a hoot. This is pretty good!
Day 100! Good job everyone! I love reading and commenting on your stories, that's my participation here. And cheering you lot on!
We love that you are doing that!!! You can be our official cheerleader 😀
It’s more fun writing with an audience. Thanks for being here.
Awwwww! Thanks for the encouragement! Which anime is the clip from?
This is from Shirobako. Posting this has made me want to watch it again. I actually wrote about it on my Steemit blog about 2-3 weeks ago. It's really good.
Hi Freewriters :)
I participated and partnered up with @srivera. Our story is on her blog https://steemit.com/freewrite/@srivera/blog-15-10-minute-freewrite
Visiting your stories now :)
You can publish it as well on your own blog....
The compilation of myself and @felt.buzz

It was great fun! We did the 10 minute timer, alternate sentences (option 2). :)
I love writing like this :)
Today I'm flying along on the back of a griffin to deliver the prompt to all of our fantastic Freewriters!
Day 101 - 5 Minute Freewrite Prompt : hardboiled minds
Your contests are doing really well. They are so much fun. I love what @svashta is doing with your daily freewrites. Kind of a fun twist.
You should come check out my Guess What I Am post. I write from the perspective of an inanimate object. Winner gets the loot! Here's the next one
Thank you for letting me know!! going to check it out for sure. Can I share it with the freewriters? And @moneyinfant puts posts with challenges and contests together. You might want to drop a link for them.
@littlescribe No need to drop the link - I'm on it!
What do you mean drop a link? Sounds like a good idea, but not sure how to go about it!
A link to your contest post. No worries, I'm on top of it. Although it is a bit different because your contest is very time sensitive and the contest post changes so quickly :) Fun idea though!
This is our little story. Wrote it in real 5 minutes each. Hope you like it

In association of @mariaentela here is my post (it's the same)
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@otsouvalas/freewrite-daily-prompt-in-5-minutes-it-was-saturday-morning-mariaentela-and-otsouvalas
I was afraid to double post like that.
Has Cheetah visited you?
I think it is okay if you do it at about the same time. Better if each writes a little bit text which is different. But if cheetah bot comes, you just tell him what it is - a joint writing thing and that is usually enough. Especially, If you don't do it all the time.
Partner wanted plz!
Grats on the 100 days!!! @byn your live freewrite was awesome!!
Thank you! I enjoyed it so much, I may have to do it again :)
That was great indeed! I think that deserves a place in a 'freewrite hall of fame' or something :D
Thank you :)
