Freewrite #735: BundlingsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #freewrite5 years ago

The alarm sounded ten minutes ago. Ten minutes. It seems like hours.
We've been bundling our precious memories, our essentials, whatever supplies we can gather since then. We had been warned. We knew the blast was possible. But no one really believed that such madness would seize our leaders. That they would go forward with this doomsday scenario.
I understand there are underground encampments, people who have prepared for this day. We have no such place. A public shelter is our only option.
Do we trust authorities to provide proper shelter? The same authorities who went forward with this madness?
Of course we don't. But we bundle and hope. How else have humans survived for all time, but to hope?
Our chances are slim, but we cling to life. We look at the young as they look to us and we smile. It is truly our resource. Our desire to live and give the children a future. Or at least to spare them the realization of the grim present.

This freewrite was obviously a lot grimmer than my other efforts. I just let the idea flow and this came to me.
Again, an interesting exercise. I did obey the authority of the timer.
If you wish to participate in @mariannewest's #freewrite, you can get details here. The prompt for today was bundling.

Sometimes, that is how it goes. Many have surprised themselves with their freewrites. 😄

Thank you for providing a forum for us to do that.

You are welcome :)

Most impressive ... chillingly close to reality ... there are people right now in the world who know EXACTLY what this feels like.

You have a strong sense of voice. Keep using it!

I was thinking of the false alarm in Hawaii a few years back.

Thank you for that nice compliment.
