Board [5 minute Free Write]

The warship formidably named the Desdemona was an obsidian mark on the crystal waters in the port of Perl. The war was over, yes. Finally over. But, for Shara it didn’t feel like it was.

She didn’t dare get too far from the tall, blonde man escorting her to the ship. Her new husband.

Yes, she was a traitor.

She married an enemy soldier, one of the invaders, so that she could be borne away with him on this terrible warship. Far away to a place she had never seen that she would have to call her home. She didn't have a home anymore.

She was staring out at the sea wishing for just a second that a wave would rise and take them all, instead. She might like to die tumbling around, weightless, in the crashing waves.

Something touched her elbow and she startled, the sound of it catching in her throat.

“It’s time to board.” He said.
