"Bite," she mumbled with her knuckles shoved in her mouth. The pain would keep her in reality until she made it home. Then she could lock herself in her apartment and cuff herself to the bed until the distortion passed. And she bite. Her teeth ripped through the flesh and scrapped bone. The pain felt good, keeping her in the right frame of mind.
She ran through the parking lot, jumping over bushes, and ran down the side walk. Her apartment was two blocks away. If she hurried she could make it home before the distortion over took her. Already her vision was blurring. She ran... 5 Minute Timer

Chapter 5

Day 20 - Prompt - Distortion
She ran through the parking lot, jumping over bushes, and ran down the side walk. Her apartment was two blocks away. If she hurried she could make it home before the distortion over took her. Already her vision was blurring, and the edges of her peripheral vision had turned black. It would be any moment now. She must hurry. She quickened her pace as she reached the edge of the intersection. Air came in large gulps through her flared nostrils. The veins on the side of her skull swelled, looking like tree roots disappearing into her hairline. And she bit. Her face flushed red, mixed with a blue hue as her eyes bulged. The distortion was coming.
"No," she begged, and ran across the intersection. She never saw the minivan come around the curve, and clip her legs. The next thing she knew she was rolling up and over the windshield, and landed with a thud on the blacktop. A bright light flashed in her eyes on impact. She moaned as blood trickle down the right side of her head, matting her hair with blood and bits of blacktop and dirt. She sat up, and swayed. The world spun around her in a blurry haze. The musky smell of onions grew stronger. The sour taste of molded milk tickled her taste buds. Her jaws watered as bile rose up her throat, and vomit shot from her mouth. The back of her throat burned as stomached acid filled her mouth, and ran from the corners of her lips.
"Are you OK?" she heard someone ask. Using the back of her hand she wiped vomit and bits of unprocessed food from her mouth, and glanced up. She swayed as she squinted her eyes, trying to make out the mans features. He squatted, and inspected her head. "Doyle," the man said, "call an ambulance."
She could hear people gathering around her, their voices sounding like chirping birds. The man continued to check her, babbling from the mouth. She squeezed her eyes shut, forcing the distortion to hang on just a moment longer. Her apartment was twenty yards across the intersection. She was almost home to her cuffs, waiting for her on the bed..
"It's going to be OK, Mindy," the man said as he patted her hand.
Her eyes popped open, and through the haze she recognized him. It was the man with the camera. He must've followed her. Fear grip her heart, causing her lips to tremble. "Get away from me," she mumbled.
"What?" the man asked, tilting his head, giving her a funny look. "I'm trying to help you."
"Get away from me," she screamed, and scrambled to her feet. Her right ankle screamed in pain. She shoved the side of her left hand in her mouth and bit. She moaned as teeth broke skin, and chewed through muscle.
The man tried to stop her, "you need to go to the hospital," but she pushed him away, and forced herself to walk, dragging her foot behind her. The pain from her ankle and hand, slowed the distortion. She pushed through the crowd, biting and moaning, and they parted to let her by. She could see the main apartment door ahead, and fumbled in her pockets for the access key as she approached. She pushed through the door. The pain in her ankle felt like fire, but she drug herself up two flights of stairs, and barged in her apartment, slamming the door, and locking the deadbolt. The distortion was upon her. The bubbling sound echoed in her ears. She had to be cuffed to the bed before the bubbling stopped, and heard the cackle.
The bubbling grew louder as she pushed through her bedroom door. Behind the bubbling sound she could hear laughter, and splashes of a thick fluid. She collapsed on the bed as her vision blackened, and the bubbling expanded to loud crashes. She hooked a cuff around her right wrist. The metal bit into her flesh. The bubbling roared, and the laughter teased her as she hook the link of chain around the bed post. Only a narrow slit of light remained in her peripheral vision as she hook the other cuff around her wrist, and then bubbling stopped. Everything went black, and a voice cackled. 5 Minute Timer

Note

Today the words flowed with ease. It makes me feel alive when I'm in the zone. The prompt was a hard one and I worked it in. I hope it is believable. From a lack of a better name I just called in The Frosted Window.

If you read it, wow! Thank You.

I made no corrections to errors. Only corrected misspelled words, and inserted markdown tags. I also marked the word when I first used today's prompt.
