THE OFFER (Moonfall, Part 2)

Read the Part 1 HERE

Demon. There was no other way to describe the being that called itself the spirit of the dark side of the moon. Hans felt his throat tighten and heartbeat spike. Although it was a cool night, beads of sweat popped out on his head.

"What do you want from me?" He asked in terror, trying in vain to see through the thick darkness that had descended upon the bright night.

"I am the answer to your prayer. I have come so you can fulfill your Destiny," It replied, voice so low and sinister the words dragged like rakes over the brain. "I have come to help you watch the world burn."

Nervously, Hans gripped his bag tighter. "What? How do you mean?"

"You have great power within. It is time to embrace it. Use your power to shape the world in the image you deem fit."

Great power? What was this, a dream? Had the stress of his work and frustration of his life finally led to a mental breakdown? This couldn't truly be happening. He couldn't be standing in the middle of a deserted road in the middle of the night, talking to a cloud like figure that had emerged from what had been a full moon.

A sudden wind blew, sending up leaves and dust in the deserted road. The thick cloud enveloped Hans.

"Accept my offer, Hans. Accept and all the power is yours. You can punish those who have betrayed you. You can educate those who looked down on you and sought your potential only for themselves. You can have all the riches in the world and grant them to whomever you wish. Accept."

As it spoke, Hans felt all the anger, frustration and helplessness he had felt for the past two decades rise up strongly once again. Yes... yes he wanted to see the world burn. He wanted them all to pay. Yes. He had felt powerless for a long time. Power had come to him now. Better late than never.

But, at the back of his mind, a slight warning rang. This was a demon, and he knew nothing about it. What would it ask for in return? However, his anger was too great to care.

"Yes," he heard himself say.

The Demon laughed. An evil, humorless sound that reverberated within Hans and constricted his heart in fear. But he had chosen. Too late to back down now.
