Coerced association is not socialization. Or maybe it is? (auch deutsch)

I have recently been alerted to harsh criticism of the therapy method developed by Fred O. Donaldson, which builds on his discoveries, which he describes as "Original Play".

Ich bin neulich aufmerksam gemacht worden auf harte Kritik an der von Fred O. Donaldson entwickelten Therapiemethode, die auf dessen Entdeckungen baut, die er mit "Ursprüngliches Spiel" (Original Play) beschreibt.

Today I then see the latest writing challenge at @HomeEdders about the topic of socialization. And while I have been writing a comment on it with little motivation, I have noticed how the two fit together. So I am participating after all.

Heute dann sehe ich die neuste Schreib-Herausforderung bei @HomeEdders zum Thema Sozialisation. Und während ich wenig motiviert einen Kommentar dazu schreibe, bemerke ich, wie beides zusammen passt. Nehme ich also doch teil.

As I have written in my comment, I first had no motivation to write another blogpost about this topic. But I wanted to make this short remark:

Wie ich in meinem Kommentar geschrieben habe, hatte ich zunächst keine Motivation, einen weiteren Blogbeitrag zu diesem Thema zu schreiben. Doch ich wollte diese kurze Bemerkung machen:

Coerced association is not socialization. Or maybe it is?

If you look into a German dictionary for "to socialize" you find equivalents to "vergemeinschaften", "gesellschaftsfähig machen" or even "verstaatlichen". Translated backwards this is "to mutualize sth.
to communize sth.", "make socially acceptable" or even "to nationalize" and "place under government control".

Erzwungener Umgang ist keine Sozialisation. Oder vielleicht doch?

Wenn man in einem Englisch-Wörterbuch nach "sozialisieren" sucht, findet man Äquivalente zu "to mutualize sth.
to communize sth.", "make socially acceptable" oder gar "to nationalize" und "place under government control". Zurück übersetzt ist dies "vergemeinschaften / in den Besitz der Gemeinde überführen", "gesellschaftsfähig machen" oder gar "verstaatlichen" und "unter Kontrolle der Regierung bringen".

Only from this short look into it, one can see there is lots of room for missinterpretation. But unfortunately this is only the beginning.

Schon bei diesem kurzen Blick hinein, sieht man, dass es viel Raum für Fehlinterpretationen gibt. Doch leider ist das erst der Anfang.

Now first let's take a precize look onto the term "to control". You find it in many policies and even in human rights legislation. "To control something" can either be "to direct" or "to examine". From my perspective the true problem here is, that constituents most of the time only see the aspect of "There need to be some examination available, don't you think?" while governing authorities most of the times miss the point, that they are and always were already directing constituents behaviour through regulation and created the need for examination in the first place. I want to call this "the vicious circle of government". And I don't want to go into this by now. But I don't want to miss the chance to somehow make sure we become more aware of this "control" thing that is all around us but construed very differently in every single case and even changed on a whim before a case comes to rest.

Nun werfen wir zunächst einen präzisen Blick auf den Begriff "kontrollieren". Das finden wir in vielen Richtlinien und sogar in den Gesetzen zu Menschenrechten. "Etwas zu kontrollieren" kann entweder "zu steuern" oder "zu prüfen" bedeuten. Aus meiner Sicht besteht das eigentliche Problem hier darin, dass Wähler die meiste Zeit nur den Aspekt sehen "Es muss eine Prüfung stattfinden, nicht wahr?", während Regierungsbehörden meistens den Punkt nicht erkennen, dass sie das Verhalten der Wähler bereits durch Regulierung steuern und die Notwendigkeit einer Prüfung überhaupt erst erzeugt haben. Ich möchte dies als "den Teufelskreis der Regierung" bezeichnen. Und ich will jetzt nicht weiter darauf eingehen. Doch ich möchte die Gelegenheit nicht verpassen, irgendwie dafür zu sorgen, dass wir uns dieser "Kontrolle" bewusst werden, die überall um uns herum stattfindet, aber in jedem einzelnen Fall sehr unterschiedlich ausgelegt und sogar nach Belieben verändert wird, noch bevor ein Fall zur Ruhe kommt.

While I am taking a writing break here, I again become aware of some experiences, as Alyssa Petterson describes them in an interview: thinking outside your own box. One part of the interview is very much about socialization from the perspective of unschoolers, that I want to include this aspect here. I made a special translation for this, which I already wanted to work on without a writing challenge.

Als ich hier eine Schreibpause mache, werde ich wieder aufmerksam auf einige Erfahrungen, wie sie Alyssa Petterson in einem Interview schildert: außerhalb der eigenen Box denken. Es geht in einem Teil des Interviews sehr oft um Sozialisation aus Perspektive von Unschoolern, dass ich diesen Teil hier unbedingt mitgeben möchte. Ich habe dazu extra eine Übersetzung angefertigt, die ich auch ohne Schreib-Challange schon erarbeiten wollte.

And that brings me to play and original play. The criticism is so unbelievably gross. With the help of the pedophilia theme, it distracts from general alienation and turns a method into a problem. It's so incredibly grossly humanophobic. I didn't see it that way at first, but it seems to fit in well with general and specific gender policy and sexual education. In other words: abuse through rewards and punishments is ok as long as the influence of political pedagogues increases. And the easiest thing is to keep bothering - or disturbing - the family.

Und damit mag ich nun zu Spiel und ursprünglichem Spiel kommen. Die Kritik ist so unglaublich krass. Da wird mithilfe des Themas Pädophilie von allgemeiner Entfremdung abgelenkt wird und eine Methode zum Problem gemacht wird. Das ist so unglaublich krass Humanophob. Ich hatte das zuerst gar nicht so gesehen, doch offenbar passt das grad gut im Rahmen allgemeiner sowie spezieller Genderpolitik und Sexualerziehung. Anders gesagt: Missbrauch mittels Belohnung und Strafen ist ok, solange der Einfluss von Politpädagogen dabei steigt. Und das einfachste ist, Familie weiter zu stören - oder zu verstören.

Peter Gray visited Luxembourg this year to give a very pleasant lecture on the subject of play - and above all on the subject of free play. I very much hope that this will soon be available as a video for free. And Peter Gray can't help but talk about state-organized abuse, where rewards and punishments are involved.

Einen super schönen Vortrag zum Thema Spiel - und vor allem zum Thema freiem Spiel - gab es von Peter Gray dieses Jahr zu Besuch in Luxemburg. Ich hoffe sehr, dass dieser schon bald als Video frei verfügbar ist. Und auch Peter Gray kommt nicht umhin, gar von staatlich organisiertem Missbrauch zu reden, wo es um Belohnungen und Strafen geht.

He describes as ideal when young people from 4 to 12 or 8 to 16 can play together. Whereby here play means, without instructions. Everything guided is not a game for him. This is impressive, as he shows to what extent free play serves to learn to cope with fellow human beings. Always under the premise of being allowed to leave! Socialisation?!

Ideal beschreibt er, wenn junge Menschen von 4 bis 12 oder 8 bis 16 miteinander spielen können. Wobei Spiel hier bedeutet, ohne Vorgaben. Alles angeleitete ist für ihn kein Spiel. Das ist beeindrucken, wie er aufzeigt, inwiefern freies Spiel dazu dient zu lernen, mit Mitmenschen zurecht zu kommen. Immer unter der Prämisse weggehen zu dürfen! Sozialisation?!

And if young people aren't allowed to leave, adults don't learn how much they misbehave, yes: how much they legally abuse each other.

Und wenn junge Menschen nicht weggehen dürfen, lernen Erwachsene halt auch nicht, wie sehr sie sich daneben benehmen, ja: wie sehr sie sich gegenseitig legalisiert missbräuchlich benehmen.

I'm just saying "Zitiergebot" (requirement for citations) Article 19 GG (Basic Law). For many years I assumed that this article should or would protect inalienable fundamental right. Inalienable?! Meanwhile, I see to what extent this article systematically legalises alienation in the first place. Tragic jurisprudence!

Ich sag nur Zitiergebot Artikel 19 GG. Lange Jahre nahm ich an, dieser Artikel solle oder würde unveräußerliches Grundrecht schützen. Unveräußerlich?! Inzwischen sehe ich, inwiefern dieser Artikel Veräußerung überhaupt erst systematisch legalisiert. Tragische Juristetei!

The requirement for citations states that breaking universal rights is ok, if some other right says so, provided that it designates the offence approvingly. And they believe that themselves?

Das Zitiergebot besagt, dass die Verletzung universeller Rechte in Ordnung ist, wenn ein anderes Recht dies sagt, sofern es den Rechtsbruch billigend benennt. Und das glauben sie selbst?

And what is at the beginning of the criticism on Original Play: No strangers! They could gain insight into the humanophobic - and even paedophile - practice of the established. Better not say a word about police-covered child trafficking. Instead, a photo of a man on a child's buttocks with no connection at all is sufficient for a successful media impact. This photo creates impressive films in the minds of the viewers, which a sick society takes in every evening thanks to government and industrial media, in which the police solve every case and punish reliably.

Und was steht am Anfang der Kritik an Original Play: Keine Fremden! Sie könnten Einblick erhalten in die humanophobe - und ja auch pädophile Praxis der Etablierten. Besser kein Wort zu polizeigedecktem Kinderhandel. Stattdessen reicht zur erfolgreichen Medienwirksamkeit ein Foto von einem Mann am Gesäß eines Kindes, das vollkommen ohne Zusammenhang beeindruckend wirksam Gehirnfilme bewirkt, die eine kranke Gesellschaft sich Abends jede Woche dank ARD, ZDF und Medienindustrie reinzieht, in denen die Polizei jeden Fall löst und Bestrafung zuverlässig folgt.

While in reality jail is a source of crime (see independent social research) and by no means a means of mitigation.

Während in Wahrheit der Knast eine Quelle für Verbrechen ist (siehe unabhängige Sozialforschung) und keineswegs ein Mittel zur Minderung.

Don't become socialized! More like, get rid of it, your socialization. Don't grow up! It's a trap!

Lass dich nicht sozialisieren! Eher noch: werde sie wieder los, deine Sozialisierung. Werd nicht erwachsen! Es ist eine Falle!
