The Lonesome Traveler

DSC00986.JPG

70 yr. old Vietnamese woman traveling through the Greek Cyclades islands by herself.

Traveling on a strict budget with no phone, camera, GPS or any form of communication.

This brave trooper was doing it the old-fashioned way, just as she was brought up as a little girl in the Northwestern Vietnamese village of Sa Pa.

Theo-- The King of Ampelos

Theo was one of our greatest hosts. He picked us up from the port, showed us key attributes of his island, provided us with Greek coffee (on the house), helped us exchange USD to Euro (since no bank resided on the island of Folegandros), treated us like family, and dropped us back off at the port when it was all said and done. Talk about a real homie right there!!!

Catch you on the flip side, Theo!!

Anna -- The Personal Tour Guide

Anna, mother of Theo, went out of her way to personally show us around the island of Folegandros. She drove us around in her car for hours illustrating graphic stories about the history of certain landmarks and attributes of the island. She even showed us around one of her three traditional Greek homes, too. Not bad for our last day in Folegandros, I'd say.

Moschoula from Faros Studios

Another fantastic host that we had while on our 28-day journey. This is Moschoula from Kimolos. She was very accommodating and was always prepared for whatever came her way. She had her mother, Maria, personally walk us to a traditional Greek restaurant in the middle of the villages old town, the Chora.

She even pointed us in the right direction to where we could find a traditional Greek breakfast meal that reminded me of an American pizza, but only 10 times more tasty.

Moschoula was always willing to converse and listen in to whatever Geets and I had to say, and vice versa!!

Thanks again Moschoula, we appreciated your company while in Kimolos!!

Another Lonesome Traveller (2 L's this time)

DSC01137.JPG

Meet my new friend, Myriam. She is from France, but currently works in Germany. My traveling companion approached her one night as she was walking back from a long days journey throughout Folegandros and asked how her day was.

One thing lead to another and the next day we were out to dinner with her. It was nice getting to chat with another traveler in order to see what kind of things she had been up to or where else she had been.

Myriam, if you are reading this, then please get back to me via email. I think Geets accidentally erased yours, so let me know if you received the picture I sent you :-)

Until next time, my friends
