Kodi video streaming can save you money

Kodi is open source software which can be installed on many internet connected devices which enables the streaming of video and music allows from sources throughout the world. Yes, in the U.S. it is legal to stream but not download and share. The amount of content including current TV programs and movies is outstanding. Pay-per-view events as well as real time sporting events are also available at no charge.

I use the Amazon Fire Stick for Kodi. The installation was as simple as watching a couple of videos on YouTube and following along.

There are many other devices available which will accept a Kodi installation. Google provides a good list of devices.

Another system which will enable the same streaming capability is the Cord Cutter. It does cost a lot at $350 U.S. it comes preconfigured with an outstanding menu system allowing you to find content available for streaming. It is as easy to use as your TV remote.

Someimportant things to remember when cutting the Cable in favor of a streaming device.

  1. Make sure you have very fast internet broadband service
  2. Make sure your internet provider provides high enough download capacity which will allow you to watch several, hours of programming per month. Even though you are not downloading the content to your device the streaming still counts towards your monthly download allocation.
  3. If you only have a small amount of download capacity each month be sure to select content in a lower quality video format. High definition and 4K video can quickly eat up your month allocation
