Excessive Politeness

Perhaps your mother never told you that there is such a thing as being too polite. Some examples of excessive politeness in our everyday lives:

• Holding open a door for a person that is clearly outside of the door holding range, forcing them to jog awkwardly towards you as you bask in your fake good deed of the day
• Saying "You too" when someone wishes you well on your vacation
• Helping your divorced friend (who wants nothing to do with his ex-wife) get his wife back by secretly going behind both their backs to arrange a romantic dinner
• Buying a year's supply of perishable fruits and veggies for your vegan friend as a gesture of acceptance and support
• Helping your drug addicted friend procure illegal drugs just to "help a brother out".

Next time you think of doing a good deed, think of these and restrain yourself.
