Trump’s ‘Character’ Might Cause Him to Lose His Liquor License
Several Washington, DC religious leaders and retired judges are leading an effort to have the liquor license for President Donald Trump's DC hotel taken away because of the President's poor "character," the Daily Beast reported Thursday.
Under DC law, the owner of a liquor license must be "of good character," something the complaintants allege Trump lacks.
Their argument is that the allegations of sexual assault against Trump, affairs with other women, and his controversial views on minority groups, as well as accusations against his businesses for impropriety, among other issues, disqualify Trump from meeting Trump's "good character" criteria.
“Mr. Trump put his character at issue when he certified that he is the owner of the licensee,” Joshua Levy, counsel to the complainants, told the Daily Beast.
The complaint was filed by Joan Goldfrank, a retired DC magistrate judge; Henry H. Kennedy, Jr., an inactive senior US District Court judge for DC; Rev. William Lamar IV, a senior pastor in DC; Rev. Jennifer Butler, the former chair of the White House Council on Faith and Neighborhood Partnerships; Rev. Dr. Timothy Tee Boddie, a Baptist preacher; Rabbi Jack Moline, a Conservative Jewish rabbi; and Rabbi Aaron Potek, an Orthodox Jewish rabbi,
As much of a long shot as it might seem for he District of Columbia Alcohol Beverage Control Board to revoke Trump International's liquor license, there's already an investigation underway.
Given the massive financial support that alcohol sales drive to hotels, losing a liquor license could be a major financial headache for Trump and his hotel business.
