😎 According to a pair of studies conducted by The Kinsey Institute, texters who used emojis more often tended to have more dates, more romance, and more intercourse. Both studies, published in the online journal PLOS ONE, surveyed single Americans about whether they used emojis when texting potential dates and then asked about their sex and dating life.

The first study — of 5,327 people ages 18-94 — found that 28% regularly used emojis, with 2.6% using at least one in every text and 2.5% using more than one in every text.

According to the study, “Results indicated that participants who used emojis/emoticons more frequently went on more first dates and engaged in sexual activity more often over the last year.”

_____

🙃 Respondents told Kinsey they emojis “provide a better outlet for self-expression than strictly text-based messages.” In fact, those who used emojis were more likely to go on a second date.

The second study was much like the first, only with a smaller sample size (275 adults of ages 18-71). In that one, emojis were often used, with only 3% saying they never use emojis with potential dates. The second study found emoji use wasn’t so much associated with getting a first date, but it was a good predictor of getting a second one. And more emoji use was again linked to more sexual activity and a greater number of sex partners.

The study didn’t look at which emojis were used.
