Capcom faces $11.91 million lawsuits over copyright theft

Yurachek lawsuit Campcom because of his photo. Polygon reported last Friday that designer Judy A. Urachek had filed a lawsuit in a Connecticut court against Capcom. He claimed that Capcom had stolen photos from his book Surfaces for a number of games, including Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry.

This book published in 1996. Yurachek wrote this book Surfaces which is a collection of 1,200 photos. Included images are provided with the CD. He said the images must be licensed by the author for commercial use, but he has not been contacted by Capcom.

The complaint lists more than 80 images stolen by Capcom from various games, including the logo for Resident Evil 4. In addition, Capcom used a total of more than 200 photos of Yuracek without permission. He also revealed that he was able to find images with the same file names as his own photos in the data of Capcom leaked through the recent hacking.

Yuracek’s lawyers sought damages between $2,500 and $25,000 per photo stolen for copyright protection. Total damages will be to reach up to $12 million.

On the other hand, this is not the first time that Capcom’s copyright theft controversy has arisen. In May, Dutch film director Richard LaPost claimed that Capcom stole the monster design and use the new Resident Evil Village.
