The story of a frustrated relationship

(SONY AND NINTENDO)

In this first chapter we will see how one of the biggest possible consoles that could be launched to the market, was frustrated by a series of corporate events which led to break relations between these two giants of the industry.

The relationships of these companies were not always rivalry, in fact in a short period of time these two meccas of entertainment had planned to collaborate and form a console, which possibly would have revolutionized the video game industry, "maybe we would even have an extensive catalog of consoles by the two. Now, what made SONY AND NINTENDO decide not to be part of this ambitious plan? To learn more we have to go back to times past where the world of video games was beginning to have an impact on the world of entertainment.

80s- Then the NES was born, and revolutionized the entertainment industry in the United States, making Nintendo for that time as the biggest reference in the industry and the undeniable champion of this niche, and also who would say Mario became the most beloved plumber by American families.

90s- After 10 years of resounding success within the American families, and a stony terrain full of obstacles by its direct competitor SEGA which had obtained enough fans to take a hundred of these from Nintendo, with its fascinating 16-bit MegaDrive, not only managed to compete against Nintendo, but also managed to establish a new icon to the industry (Sonic).

90-99 After having lost a great number of fans of the hand of their competitor, both companies plan their next strategy to surpass the other, although Nintendo managed to put itself before Sega with the SuperNes, not enough with this and wanted to include the revolutionary system of CDs, not to be left behind before the Megacd of Sega, and here is where Sony entered, to get a revolutionary CD system for a new console by these.

The fall of a big one - However, Nintendo was not satisfied enough with the pact made with Sony, since it was taking too long to show the first prototype of the integration of the CD into the Nintendo system, which led her to think of new alternatives and as if it were a contingency plan, it occurred to Philips to shake hands with Sony's direct competitor at the time, despite the fact that the console announced by Sony and Nintendo (SNES-CD), had achieved a resounding marketing success and generated great hype among buyers, it was announced the painful news of the rupture of joint work by the companies.

Sony not content with this and wounded by the betrayal of its biggest ally in this market, decided to continue for its part with the project to integrate a console into the world of entertainment, but this time with a significant difference, "Nintendo was the rival to defeat. Finally the creation of Sony known as PlayStation, managed to see the light in mid-1994 in Japan and later in the rest of the world, which managed to surrender to their feet to all fans of video games in the West, establishing itself as the console preferred by Europe, United States and Latin America. So much so that its former ally and now rival Nintendo, was overwhelmed by the resounding success of sales of the console that decided to delay the launch of the Nintendo 64, which they had planned to present months later. Although the Nintendo 64 was quite successful in Asia, it arrived late to a battle already won by its rival, which would continue amassing victories against its new competitors and becoming the franchise of best-selling video game consoles in history.
