Commodore goes Nintendo: C64 Mini announced - with 64 games

in #game7 years ago

Retro consoles such as the NES Classic Mini or the SNES Classic Mini sell themselves very well. The company "Retro Games Limited" probably thought this - and has announced the C64 Mini. The device is expected to be released with 64 preinstalled classics, release period and sales price.

The original C64 from Commodore was released in 1982 - this is more than 35 years ago. With almost 64 KB of RAM, the console compared to modern smartphones had only a (really) tiny fraction of memory. For comparison: The Galaxy Note 8 has, for example, almost 6.291.456 kilobytes of RAM (converted 6 GB). Nevertheless, many fun games could be played on the console, of which the older readers of you probably still know some titles. The C64 Mini is about half the size of the original and brings back  many of these games now, as can be seen on the official product website.

New edition with USB

With an HDMI cable, the C64 Mini can be connected to modern televisions. The joystick for playing is connected via USB to the console. It is also possible to insert a USB keyboard. Then the retro device could be used as a "computer" with basic functions. Competition for your Mac or Windows-PC should be the C64 Mini but rather not.

The 64 preinstalled titles include "California Games", "Speedball 2" or "Paradroid". From sports games to shooters, the manufacturer wants to offer a wide range of different games. Filters could complete the time travel: one emulates the image of a tube television. However, the C64 mini also has a memory function that lets you keep track of your game progress. The release is scheduled to start in early 2018, currently priced at 79.99 euros.
