With the filming at full speed, some details can already be deduced, or have already been leaked, or simply disclosed!
THE FILMAGES (AND THE RETURNS) | Filming for the eighth season began in October 2017, and should end in August 2018. Actors confirmed for return include Emilia Clarke (Daenerys), Kit Harington (Jon), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime), Kristofer Hivju (Tormund), John Bradley (Sam), Maisie Williams (Arya), Sophie Turner (Sansa), Iain Glen (Jorah), Isaac Hampstead Wright (Bran), Jacob Anderson (Gray Worm), Pilou Asbaek (Euron) and more.
THE NOVATOS | The eighth season is to introduce the Gold Company, an army of mercenaries who will work for Cersei from Essos. A casting call has already been announced for the role of the leader of this army, as well as some other descriptions of new characters: a sailor, who must be part of the Greyjoy crew; a northern farmer; a girl described as "cheeky and attractive".
THE FINALS (NO PLURAL) | HBO President Casey Bloys has confirmed that an old technique will be employed by the production of Game of Thrones for the final moments of the series: They will film several different conclusions, so that not even the actors, or the team, or any observer who is watching the filming, will know which of the finals is the real, chosen by the writers.
THE NEW LOCATIONS | Watchers on the Wall reports that production is looking for a new castle to film scenes in Port White, the Manderly family home, where Jon and Daenerys must pass before going to Winterfell. Meanwhile, Game of Thrones must return to the Dragons Arena and the Red Fort Dungeons, as the locations of these two scenarios will be used again, and the Winterfell set undergoes major refurbishment.
OS ROTEIROS | Os criadores David Benioff e D.B. Weiss não quiseram assinar pessoalmente todos os seis episódios da última temporada – ao invés disso, eles escreverão os quatro últimos capítulos, deixando a première da temporada pra Dave Hill (“Eastwatch”) e o segundo episódio para o produtor Bryan Cogman (“The Laws of God and Men”).
OS DIRETORES | Benioff e Weiss também reservaram a oportunidade de dirigir o episódio final da série, deixando os outros quatro para dois cineastas capazes que já assinaram outros capítulos: David Nutter (“Mother’s Mercy”) e Miguel Sapochnik, nome que evoca boas memórias nos fãs de Game of Thrones com seus trabalhos em “Battle of the Bastards”, “Hardhome” e “The Winds of Winter”.
THE BUDGET | HBO has waived $ 15 million per episode for the past season, closing the budget for the six episodes by $ 90 million, the price of a mid-block Hollywood blockbuster. The station also assured that the episodes will be longer than ever, with most of them reaching or exceeding the 80 minutes (1.20) of the biggest chapter so far, "The Dragon and the Wolf."
THE DERIVATIVES | HBO has hired no less than five screenwriters to work on different series projects derived from Game of Thrones, not disclosing where none of them would pass. Two of the projects received the assistance of George R.R. Martin, author of the original books, and HBO President Casey Bloys says he has read scripts for at least some of the derivative proposals, which are expected to hit screens by 2020.
