Games on the Blockchain?
Game design is an interest of mine, and I see great potential in blockchain and steem especially as platforms to build whole new types of games. The only problem is I know jack all about how to actually do this, so I am mainly posting this to reach out to those who have more experience and knowledge of the system and can teach me or point me to the right sources. If any of you find this kinda thing interesting I'd love to talk to you.
I will also probably use this blog to post content about game design in general, so stick around maybe?
I've been thinking about this recently, and I'm asking myself the question, what does it mean to be a game on a blockchain?
The obvious answer is collectible, like cryptokitties, but with an actual game. But obvious answers are boring. I'll probably write a post soon on my thoughts.
Not too sure of it myself yet, but in general I feel we need to look for concepts based heavily around community interaction and social/economic structures. The main draw of such games is a complex ever-changing microcosm the player can immerse themselves in, a nested world that imitates reality.
Blockchain works well for this because it is already designed to make digital things 'real', meaning a world stored within it would essentially become a real world. Meaning every action a player takes is also real, which who knows what insane implications this might have on how the collective output of those actions shapes the landscape of a game's community.
Either way, a game like Fallen London would be the perfect fit at this stage of blockchain development. Who knows where we might go from there. http://fallenlondon.storynexus.com/
