The Queen of the North Dressed an Artwork
When we dedicate to an artistic activity, it is difficult to separate that vision from everything that surrounds us. Where we are going our attention is fixed to what we like and how we can transform it. It means, if you are a painter, something in you will lead you to see the blue of the sea and its composition, if you are a musician, you may perceive more than, perhaps, those who have another perception, and that inspires you to create something else. It happened to me when I started watching Game of Thrones, the costumes details caught me inmediatly, in the second season I was sure there was something more. Then, I investigatigate about Michele Clapton and it was for me an art cathedra on fashion with purpose. This designer really did a masterful job in each piece taking into account the evolution of the characters and the history that surrounded them.
Athought I have not yet made something about the series, I'm inspired to show you those details about the costumes, because as I comment in video, Game of Thrones takes us to read between lines and be aware of those details that seem minimal but in the end they are very important. In this case I bring you an in-depth analysis of the costume which The Queen of the North: Sansa Stark, wore at her coronation, with comments from the same designer: Michele Clapton.
The parade of Sansa to the throne is a poem, her presence, attitude and sample of the details of her suit makes it an unforgettable scene, one of the first details that we can see is the ribbed in the long open sleeves dress with the leaves of the arciano carved by the Sons of the Forest that is interpreted like tribute to her mother: Catelyn, deceased during the well-known Red Wedding.
We also see a totally smooth hairstyle, without braids, look what she says about it
Another aspect that reflects this incredible look is the superior decoration on the front that resembles the branches of the Weirdwood forest, and it is another remembrance of the earth that saw Sansa Stark grow, now The Queen of the North, symbolizing a peaceful beginning for the North. Now, we go to the design of the ring-shaped silver crown and in the center two wolves, which symbolize the Stark family, but to be more specific it emulates the design that Robb wore, the elder of them in his coat.
We continue talking about layers and it is that the Sansa wears in her coronation is the fusion among her two siblings Arya and Jon, the asymmetry is similar to the one her sister wore, and the voluminous with the skin of a wolf we owe it to the one we always saw dressing Jon Snow up.
As you can see this is a total artwork, Sophie Turner, aka: Sanda, loved her queen dress and Michele Clapton is proud of tha work, she says:
Nothing is created without meaning...in the final scenes it’s my hands dressing Sansa!!
And that phrase is meaningful in all the production of the serie, each detail count, since a simple word until the highest volume of amusic which join an amazing scene, with fantastic visual element. I invite you to see a short analysis about it that I did:
Even if you did not like the end of the serie, it has become in a piece of artwork for tv and the showbusiness, also, imagine how important this series was for all the cast that Sophie Turner has tattooed a wolf swith the phrase: The Pack Survived, referring to the 4 Starks. Also Emilia Clarke got three dragons, and both of her said good bye to her characters with very deep words, you can see them on their instagram's profiles. Definetly Game of Thrones has marked a part of the industry.
