The Loss of a Giant

in #games5 years ago

The other day I was playing some dice when I received some terrible news.

My favorite dice site, https://magic-dice.com/ has sadly stopped all operations.
Why did you leave us @magicdice? What will become of my precious tokens?
I'll have to admit, I would love to roll with you guys one more time, but it seems that I will no longer have this chance.
I will never unfollow you in hopes that you are coming back. Oh god! I feel like such a loser for trusting you.
However, there is hope, maybe if you come back, I can learn to trust you again. Please do the right thing MagicDice and come back.

They haven't posted in two months. At the very least I would like to see a post once a week so we always have something on the active payout to comment on that is being monitored by the owners. Customer support is important. This also goes for anyone offering a service free or not, even the bot owners.

Some people are absolutely furious. They were looking at these tokens like an investment into the future or something. I always thought, as soon as they give out too many, people will just move to other sites where the grass is greener. You would need some pretty exceptional games and support to have players when you are no longer offering token. The strange thing is, they still had a lot of tokens to give away.

I guess either not dealing with tokens entirely, or having a sustainable model that isn't at all shaped like a funnel or pyramid is the best idea moving forward. I am just sad I cannot even trade my tokens since they weren't on SteemEngine. Oh well, there is aways SteemRollerz, Cupz, SteemBet, Epicdice and KryptoGamerz. Actually, to be honest, SteemBet is dodgy in my opinion. I won't be dicing there again either.

One last thing on news is MoonSteem. I wrote about these fellows last time. Sadly, they decided to shut down their website. They mentioned something about transparency and decided to give everyone back their money and dividends. Unlike MagicDice, MoonSteem shut down properly. I heard that depending on where you live, starting a casino online is not permissible.

I think moving forward, the safest thing to do is stick with sites where the owners are known, or at least their main Steem profiles are known. For example, SteemRollerz is owned by Klye who is a witness and an active community member. I am not sure if other owners are known. However, we can decide based on whether or not they have been dodgy. As mentioned, avoid SteemBet.

Most important, don't gamble what you cannot lose. Also, remember the tokens are only worth what they are currently being sold for. Past dividends are not useful for determining future dividends and it seems like dividend payments will slow down like crazy. It is a lot easier to make 10 new sites with slightly different names and graphics than 1 really good one.

Thanks for the mention above. I think people have to realise that if you're offered massive returns you are going to be disappointed. At Cupz we are offering a fun experience with multiple games and whilst you play we give out CUPZ tokens, which do give you a share of the profit, and we are happy to share that because most of our players get involved in the Cupz community and are always helping to make the offering better.

We published a post describing our vision https://busy.org/@cupz/the-state-of-play-for-steem-gambling and if you come to our Discord Channel, you'll see we are open, honest, responsive and involved.

I think people will be more cautious given recent happenings, but that's no bad thing and the remaining sites will need to prove their trustworthiness, which is something we have prioritised from the start, feel free to chat with anyone in our Discord, I know they will speak positively about us.

Thank you for your thoughtful and insightful reply.
I definitely feel more cautious. Maybe I will join your discord and start playing even more cupz!

You don't want the people behind Magicdice to come back. Good riddance their actions sparked the creation of this account.

Okay. Are you planning on creating a MagicDice 2.0 website?

You don't want the people behind Magicdice to come back

but how do you now they are not here and not running one of the existing gambling apps?
