How to make a game. Quick answers

in #games7 years ago

Most tutorials give you too much, when you don't even know what tools to use. Enough of that. Quick answers:

What a game needs:

  1. World plain. Example solutions: Unity3D or Unreal game engine.
  2. Character(s) & other scenery. Example solutions: 3D - Blender; 2D - Tool sai
  3. Action (aka moving the character/objects). Example solutions: Unreal (coding optional) or Unity3D (coding required)
  4. Story/purpose. Example solutions: reach point, save princess/world, etc
  5. Sound. Example solutions(less knowledge here): 2D - GarageBand (Mac), FruityLoops

Now, of course if you make a word game you might not be using a world plain or character, so obviously you can skip what you don't want to add.
Disclaimer: The above example solutions are of course just a few examples of more existing tools. Those are free though and, except for sound where I'm less knowledgeable, those are tools used by many game makers. If you want more options, then just search or buy. Now you should at least have a starting point.

If you weren't looking just for tools, or need more info on them, then here you go:
Which game engine to choose? (This quite important)
