Weekly Preview: 01.-07. August 2016

This week is gonna be a rather lame week for gaming. We have some indie games being published which might fill the hole until No Man's Sky is released a week later, but apart from Batman: The Telltale Series, I wouldn't actually recommend any of these games. Or are you the kind of player who enjoys beautiful, lovely crafted indie games? In that case, lucky you, I suppose.

ABZU

ABZU is a two dimensional underwater adventure, including fishes such as Dolphins and Whales (coincidence? I don't think so!). The game has won a few prices already, which can be found on the official Steam Page.

Comment: That game looks quite pretty actually. Depending on the price and the actual play trough time, it might be worth to pick up. Let's wait for the first reviews!

Batman: The Telltale Series

Batman: The Telltale Series is an episodal game with the official batman license. While not much about the actual story is known, telltale games tend to put more weight on the plot than the actual gameplay.

Comment: One just gotta love telltale. Let's see if this goes in the direction of "The Walking Dead" or if it takes the "Minecraft: Story Mode" approach.

Livelock

Livelock is a coop top-down-shooter, set in an apocalyptic world. Machines have taken over and are not battling each other. One super satellite is now trying to end this war by using backups of the human consciousness.

Comment: The plot sounds kinda saturated, but the trailers and the already released ingame footage do look beautiful. This might become a real insider hit.

This is the police

This is the Police is a tactival strategy and adventure game mashup with a unique design where the player controls the head of police, facing corruption, crime and intrigues.

Comment: I'm not sure about this one. Apparently, the developers have put quite a lot of love into the unique drawings, but then again the story doesn't sound to good. Apart from that, this game should've been released a few days earlier, but the publisher reportedly "forgot" to submit it to steem for the final review. What a hassle.

Candle

Candle is a puzzlegame with a rather esoteric setting. The protagonist wanders trough a completely handdrawn world. Candle was crowdfunded and raised more than 50.000$.

Comment: The ingame material looks very good, but the developer makes a shady first impression, judging from their website. Even their "Pre-Order" button isn't working, something that shouldn't happen to a serious game developer.

Frozen State

Frozen State is a survival horror game from the top down perspective. It's set in a sybirian city named "Duga 40", whose citizens have been attacked by alien parasites. It's an open world game, and it also features a neat crafting system know from games such as DayZ.

Comment: Actually I don't expect much from this game. It looks very cheap, even for an Indie Game. Even the game trailer is recorded with a very low FPS rate, the developers comment ("We have done it on old laptop. We are true INDIE. What else can I say") doesn't really convince me.

And that's it already! See you next week!
