Cass attempts to play... The Eidolon on the Commodore 64
Hi,
In this video I have a crack at the fantastic The Eidolon (by Lucasfilm/Activision) on the C64:
One of the series of early Lucasfilm games, this utilised the fractal graphics engine that had been employed on the previous classics Rescue on Fractalus (a.k.a. Behind Jaggi Lines) and Koronis Rift. This time instead of using fractals to produce the landscape, the engine is instead employed to create the cave-like walls in the game. It may not look much now, but at the time the ability to have a 3D environment to explore at a fast (for the hardware) pace was astonishing.
The game has you journeying through the levels of your own mind, destroying the weird creatures that inhabit it to gain the crystals needed to power your weapons and your craft before facing the dragons that act as the guardians of each level. The denizens of your tortured brain become ever more powerful as you try to get to the last level and destroy the huge final dragon to restore your fractured psyche.
Amazing stuff!
As ever, I didn't activate any cheat modes - I'm going to try to do these playthroughs without any artificial help...
Please feel free to leave suggestions in the comments for other games for me to play on the C64 (or indeed the Vic-20 or C16/Plus4)
Enjoy the video!
If you enjoyed this video, please let me know below and please check out my other vids on my blog (including complete playthroughs of the all time classic Bruce Lee by Datasoft, Impossible Mission by Epyx and the mighty Ghostbusters by Activision).
Cheers,
