Golden Axe - Arcade Zone #1 - Retro Review
We enter the deepest Arcades games of yesteryear, where recreation were a total addiction, I remember that the little money that my parents gave me I spent in the Arcades room, each of those cabinets has a very special game which we each dedicate some time to finish (and in some cases was impossible to do), now is the time to remember the great Golden Ax which meant a great step for the Beat'em up and that despite all these years is still remembered by the great gamer community, personally enjoy this game in Arcade and it is a pleasure to play it with an emulator from the comfort of home.
By the end of the 80s the graphics applied to Golden Ax are very good, the designs of their sprites look great as well as their animations, the attacks of our characters give the sensation that their weapon has weight and that its blows are powerful, I consider that they tried as much as possible to point out that they are warlike class humans. The art used in each of its levels is of excellent quality apart that clearly makes you notice that the game is located in the middle ages, making you go and adapt perfectly to the history of the game, at the level of gameplay we will not find many differences between them, from time to time we will find parts that we must use our jump not to die, but of the rest there are not many variants.
The difficulty is a subject that presents in an extraordinary way in this game, being able to get you gray from where you do not have them, if we attack in an incorrect way or we are not aware of the attacks of our enemies can take a sacred bar of life with a simple combo, taking into account that we start with 3 bars and 2 lives you have to have the keen senses to be able to pass your levels with all success.
When we start our adventure we have 3 warriors available, although their gameplay is similar their attack forces and magic power are totally different, this has to be taken into account when taking certain actions at several levels, although most of people chose the warrior who was the most balanced of them.
We have available in our great board three buttons, one of which are physical attacks that are excellent melee, you can trigger good combos that do a good damage to the enemy, the one I love is one that lets them kneel and with the fist of the sword in the head and the end you shoot with a tremendous kick, with another we will use the special magic attacks, each character has one with different magic power, to use it we must grab some potions which give us some elendes that in certain parts of the level we will find them, we simply give a good kick to let them loose (that subtle XD), and with the remaining button we can jump that if its usefulness is to be able to skip risks that threaten our life apart from dodging some other enemy attack.
In addition we have some very good combinations that allow us to have some advantage of our enemies, if we doubled the directional joystick either to the left or to the right and we left it pulsado to that direction we will be able to realize a race, if we use the porpoises of physical attack we will give a good blow that knocks down our adversary, or if we press the jump button with the one at the same time it will be clear how our character will make a movement to attack the enemy that is behind us, the bad thing is that if we arrive to fail that blow we will be totally exposed to any enemy attack, so we must be completely safe the moment we execute it.
We also have the help of certain animals that in the beginning are tamed by our enemies, but simply with a blow we can get them down, that's when we can take their control, they really help us a lot because their attacks are strong compared to ours and if some adversary they come to give us a blow makes us lower of the same without taking our life, if we want to recover it we must hurry since after a short time it will go quickly.
One of the best things that this arcade had is its cooperative mode (up to 2 players). This radically changed the gameplay and difficulty in the game, however we had to take into account the characters that we would choose to give a little more balance to their skill in levels (with respect to physical attack and magic), in addition you had to be very well coordinated with our partner because here there was the possibility of hurting him with our blows and this could not be disabled.
As you would expect from an arcade game the music is of excellent quality, although its melodies are not sticky compared to other games really make you enjoy it, I think they go perfectly with the environment, their special sounds are quite detailed, whenever we eliminated an enemy we will hear that great cry of his lethal death, something that was quite satisfactory since some of them were very complicated to kill, simply a delight in front of that great cabinet.
Golden Ax was one of the games that enjoyed both solitaire and comrades in the great arcade halls, really its simple formula to be an addictive game, its difficulty did not allow it to be a simple game, you have to spend tab after plug to power see his final, as personal opinion I consider school (despite not being the first) in games of its kind, its success was so great that there were ports for different types of consoles, some of them very good and some not so much, but you could play this great video game from home, I consider it very special within my gamer history and thanks to the magic of the emulators I can play it with my colleagues at any time.

Double Dragon is one of the most epic games in arcade, but the difficulty of Golden Axe was impressive T.T
