Fortnite Summer Skirmish Competitor Accused Of Cheating

in #gaming6 years ago (edited)

The Fortnite community has been hit with a serious scandal after a Reddit user claimed that one of the winners of Fortnite's Summer Skirmish was accused of cheating.

What Was Claimed

On the Fortnite subreddit, Reddit user Sora26 posted a thread where they claimed that iDropz_bodies, a player who won $130,000 in the Skirmish cheated.

In his post, he claimed that IDropz_bodies did the following:

  • Had their friends join his games and fed them eliminations.
  • Would leave matches that weren't full or if the bus on an unfavorable path.
  • Used a keyboard and mouse whilst playing on the PS4, giving them an unfair advantage.

Epic Games Response

Epic Games was quick to respond to the claims posting their own thread on the issue.

In the thread, Epic Games confirms that they've looked into each claimed made and found no evidence of any wrongdoing by iDropz_bodies.

"We appreciate the community's concern around the integrity of the competition, but questioning the results of an individual participant without evidence unfairly tears apart at what should be a crowning moment of achievement for an individual who earned their way there and performed when it counted.

Our primary goal is to support competition that is fun, inclusive, and in line with the overall spirit of Fortnite. Unsportsmanlike conduct from participants is not within that spirit, and will not be tolerated in Fortnite competition."

A Final Word From Sora26

After Epic Games response, Sora26 edited his original post, thanking Epic for investigating the issue and apologizing to iDropz_bodies for his original accusation.

"Although according to the investigation, a lot of us were indeed wrong, especially me. I have no doubt that the backlash and the quick and thorough investigation into cheating by Epic games will work as a deterrent for future players whom may have once considered it.

At this point, all we can ever do as human beings is own up to a mistake, and give our sincerest apologies and congratulations to @idropz_bodies.

An even bigger apology from me, @idropz_bodies. I was the one who started this post, and although I only wanted to start an investigation, I know how these things can quickly turn into something more bitter. So for that, I apologize."

Wow, props to u/Sora26. Apologies like that are not a common thing anymore. It takes a big man to admit wrongdoing, even more so to apologize for it.

Indeed. A great thing to see in the gaming world. Very rare!
