Should you stay with intel? Or move to Ryzen? Overlook of AMD's new series of processors. Part 1.steemCreated with Sketch.

In this thread we will be looking into the AMD Ryzen series and to see if it is worth purchasing instead of the most popular i5/i7 intel series of processors, we will talk about gaming performance and multi tasking performance as well, and i will also be showing some benchmarks.

We will be looking at the Ryzen 5 1600x vs the intel i5 6600k.

So AMD has been crushing the budget market with their new Ryzen series of processors, and  gamers are rejoicing for such good performance at competitive pricing.

prices: Ryzen 5 1600x ( $229.99 Avg ) | Intel i5 6600k ( $228.52 Avg) Prices checked on amazon.

So first we will look into the Ryzen 5 1600x againts the i5 6600k and here are some specs.

i5 6600k specs: 4 cores | 4 threads | 3.5GHz Base frequency | 3.90Ghz Turbo frequency | 6 MB SmartCache.

Ryzen 5 1600x specs:  6 cores | 12 threads | 3.6Ghz Base frequency| 4.0Ghz | Turbo frequency | Total l2 Cache 3MB.

So you may be looking at these specs and say, how is this a fair comparison?  well for one yes with the Ryzen 1600x you get more cores threads and Ghz but for gaming you really don't need more then 4 cores or 4 threads or 3.5ghz, and also something to note you can overclock intel processors a lot further then amd processors with good coolers (if you are into that) but i will show some benchmarks of the two on the most current popular games.

(All benchmarks are provided by www.toptengamer.com i give them full credit for these benchmarks)

 Average FPS:

 Minimum FPS:

So as you can see by these benchmarks the i5 pulls ahead in almost everything, you must be thinking to yourself how is this possible the Ryzen 5 has better specs, like i said before you don't need more then 4 cores when it comes to gaming, and honestly the differences between these processors are very very little.

So what processor should you buy? currently there is no reason to purchase any of the i5 series when Ryzen offers more for less, more cores you will have much much better multi tasking performance and they can take a lot less stress especially if you are building a workstation, and the average frame difference in games was 2 to 5 frames at best witch makes almost no difference, so me personally would suggest getting a Ryzen 5 over an i5, but if you already have an i5 and think it was a mistake, it was not, the i5 series of processors are still very good.

Make sure to follow me i will be doing another post on the Ryzen 7 vs intel i7 7700k when i have gathered more information, thank you for reading this post i hope it helped you out.

but what about the power and heat known for amd does it still apply

I did't want to touche up in that subject because it is mostly based on what cooler you are using, But so far AMD Ryzen series has no thermal issues, AMD mostly has heat issues with there video cards but they have got it right with Ryzen.

thanks for the reply i havent built a pc in a while so the gpu is probs what i was thinking of

For video cards i do not suggest getting AMD, They run very hot unless you plan on watercooling them, hopefully they will fix there heat issues with the new vega series coming soon, thank you for your comment :)

i agree i loved my 980ti but i heare if youre x11 mining amd is the way to go
