30 minutes in - Party Hard
Hi peeps!
Today I'm introducing something new I want to try: 30 minutes in. I play a game for about 30 minutes, and talk about my thoughts. I could do it in a video format, but that's something for the future maybe? I was also thinking about using Steemit to livestream while I play a game. Not sure how I could do that yet, but I've read some interesting material by @mldorton about it over here. The games I will do this about, are not necessarily good games, recent games or the most well known games. Just some games that caught my attention and then my thoughts about them. Some of the games have even been in my library for a very long time, but I've only just decided to try them out. The posts will have 4 parts:
- The Heart will contain some thoughts on the story in that half an hour.
- The Hands will contain some thoughts and experiences in how the game actually feels. Mostly gameplay-wise.
- The Eyes will be about how the game looks visually.
- The Ears will be about the sound and music.
- The Mind will be my overall opinion about the game so far.
Any way, here we go!.
Party Hard
I've actually just received this game for my birthday. It's one I've had on my Steam wishlist for quite some time and I've been dying to try it out.
The Heart
The story is pretty simple. You're just a guy, trying to get some night's rest, but your neighbors are having a big party. It is up to you to make sure the party dies. There was actually a whole police investigation going on about the party hard killings and the story follows a police officer named "John West" who was involved in the investigation.
The Hands
The game plays like an action stealth game with a not too difficult AI. You have to kill everyone at the party using either a knife or some killing tools spread out around the party. There are about 10 different locations, but the tools you find on a location are randomized each time you play. e.g. There could be a horse near a doorway which you can interact with to have it kick a passer-by or there could be a bull somewhere that you can enrage. When the party-goers see you near a corpse, they will call the police and tell them it was you. However, when you kill someone where no-one sees it, and put the corpse next to someone that has passed out drunk, the police will arrest them instead. Overall, it's pretty fun to "stealth" your way around a party and kill everyone when you get the chance.
The Eyes
The graphics and animations are decent for a pixel art game. It's always fun to see pixely people getting whacked. It all comes together pretty well animations are all but choppy. There are even cutscenes featuring moving stills before each "party" that are fully voiced as well!
The Ears
Each party has some music you could hear at a party. The sound effects are a bit sparse though. They go from the occasional "explosion" to the follow-up panicky screams of the party-goers. They are not too bad on the ears though and fitting for the scene they're in. You can't hear a lot of noise at a party, other than the music ;)
The Mind
The game is definitely fun to play and the difficulty-level is pretty high if you're not used to playing stealth games. It's very fun to take the life out of a party and trying not to get caught. If you like the art-style and are into games casually, this one is for you. It also features workshop support, so the replay-ability is pretty good too. There are some weird things that you wouldn't see in real life, e.g. the police puts the dead bodies in body bags and just leaves them on the crime scene. The party guests then continue to party as if there's no tomorrow. Talk about hard-core!
Thank you very much for reading! All of the funds gathered by my posts, go straight into my collection of games and allow me to write about more games or use better techniques (upgrade hardware,...) so thank you so far for all the support!
Take care peeps!
Cheers!
Wanna play something together? feel free to leave a comment:)
