Top 5 Kick-Ass Tracks from Videogames

in #gaming6 years ago (edited)

They are out there. Those video game music tracks that get you pumped. That make you want to kick some alien-, demon- or genetically mutated super solider-ass.

I am talking about those beats that make you feel invincible as you go up against seemingly insurmountable odds. The beats that make you feel like you are one of those 80s/90s action heroes.

But which are the best of the best for kicking some villainous butt?

Here are my top 5!

Number 5: Battletoads – Intermission Screen (Genesis version)

I know, I know – starting the list of with some kind of loading screen music is sure to raise some eyebrows. But hear me out! This short little track (and that weird bird guy fumbling on those machines), will get you pumped for the mission(s) to come. And you will need all the adrenaline that you can get, as this game is one of the hardest on any system, let alone on the Genesis.

Number 4: Ninja Gaiden – Main Theme (Xbox version)

Ninja Gaiden is not for the faint of the heart. Like Battletoads this is one hell of a difficult game. Just listening to the main theme gives me the chills and brings back memories of having to battle some of the most gruesome bosses in gaming history. The track perfectly captures the tension-filled atmosphere of the title and the endurance it takes to best it.

Number 3: Jet Force Gemini – Sekhmet

This often overlooked Nintendo 64 classic has an incredible soundtrack on offer. A fact that made it hard to pick just one track. In the end I settled on the epic beats of Sekhmet. The music perfectly underscores the situation, as you are on a hostile spaceship and have to battle hordes of alien insects. Listen to it and become the one-man army the universe needs!

Number 2: Contra III – Neo Kobe Steel Factory

Now, steel is something you need to be made of when you want to beat Contra III. While most gamers probably think of the title track when they hear this shooters name, I have to give the nod to the song that is being played in Stage 3. It is so epic that it makes you want to transform into a 90s badass and rid the world of all those evil thugs.

Number 1: Doom – At Dooms Gate

This had to be number one. The song in stage 1 is the perfect set-up for the rest of the game. It gets your blood pumping, your heart rate rising, your eyes popping, your nose bleeding, I could go on and on. A great track for sending all those demons back to hell.

So, there you have it! My top 5 kick-ass tracks from videogames.

I hope you enjoyed the list! What are your favorite video-game music tracks that make you feel like you are a total bad-ass? I would love to read it in the comments below!

Have a good one!

This track plays once you've beaten the eight bosses before entering the final stages. You break into the fortress here.

There's a mood of epic forebodingness that's very rarely present in a 1990s platformer.

You're done practicing, it's go time now. You've learned all you're going to learn by going through the eight initial stages. Now you need to put all that together and save the world.

Love it.

This is definitely a fine pick! "Epic forebodingness" is the perfect attribute for this track. Thanks for the comment!

FUCKING A MAN!!!!!!! Mein Leben!!!!!

Sounds like somebody is a fan of Wolfenstein 3D :).

Nice selection @iamk! There are too many badass videogame music for me to think of but I'd say lately, this Robocop 3 cover by Lagerfeldt is the one that makes me feel unstoppable:

Thanks for the comment and for sharing your preferred kick-ass track! Sounds rad and epic!

You’re welcome. I know this thanks to Simply Austin’s YouTube videos.

Some very interesting picks you got here not the norm everybody else picks awesome stuff @iamk and so good to see some Jet Force love here.

Thank you for the nice comment! It is highly appreciated. And I have to agree that Jet Force Gemini is not getting the love it deserves. The game was vastly overlooked when it came out and people missed out on a truly unique title. The atmosphere (greatly enhanced by the music) was awesome, the weapons unique (I am looking at you tri-rocket launcher) and it was just plain fun squashing those evil bugs.

Yeah its probably the most underrated on your list, they did try pushing it but it probably game out too late. Jet Force Gemini was truly a unique title I liked the levels also, the game was generally big which I liked and bug splatting was strangely fun hehe @iamk

Maybe the most memorable theme from my "Amiga 500" times. Also Turrican II is one of the best arcade game ever made. The whole tracks are just fun and very motivating through the game. Check it out if you haven't heard of Turricane II !

Definitely another track that I have to add to the playlist ;)!
Thanks for sharing!
