Pokken Tournament DX for Nintendo Switch - Is it Worth it? | 8-Bit Eric
This is a review of Pokken Tournament DX for the Nintendo Switch by 8-Bit Eric. Pokken Tournament was released on the Wii U last year. Pokken Tournament DX is the definitive version, and adds extra content, minor upgrades, and a handful of characters. Pokken tournament DX is an easy to pick up and play game. You don’t have to memorize moves or pull off perfect combos, it is very casual friendly.
Pokken Tournament matches are best of three rounds that place players against one another in a 3D arena. I think the biggest thing that makes poker different than most fighting games is the toggle between two distinct combat phases – known as "Field" and "Duel”. Battles are constantly shifting between the two phases, “Phase Shifts” happen after you do a certain amount of damage to your opponent, this is an interesting mechanic that adds a lot of strategy to the game since the shifts can happen at any moment it changes how you should attack.
Pokemon are split up into four different groups: Power, Speed, Technical, and Standard. There are 21 different Pokemon to choose from, with the full roster from Pokken Tournament returning. There are now five more Pokémon to fight with: Croagunk, Empoleon, Darkrai, Scizor and Decidueye.
