Razer BlackWidow X Chroma Gunmetal Edition Review

The looks of this keyboard are fantastic, the construction is top notch no bending and slippage on the desk and the weight gives a reassuring study quality feel and the gun metal finish is premium.

The cable are a braided affair but tight to get in to the alternative channel runs under the keyboard.

Lighting wise it is of course splendid after signing up with their website and downloading the software I was able to create many lighting profiles and download some via their app.

Note that you can have a custom lighting profile linked to a game with all the keys you use in said game, then whenever you start the game it will automatically change to that. What I call value added features

The switches under the keyscaps are razer’s own they are very responsive but some may find the higher pitch click not to their taste. But it only took just over a day for me to get used to it and now I am quite enjoying the clicky clicks.

This is ALMOST a 5 star keyboard but I feel it goes a bit wrong with the keycaps themselves which is the most important part I think. The problem is the letters and other symbols are overly small and worse the secondary key functions don’t light up. (Note in the pictures on the website these Sec Funct appear to light up, photographic lighting maybe?)
That is some irony for a keyboard that does light up, but in poor light you practically have to get a torch to find a $ or a £. This is quite annoying as these second key functions printing are absolutely tiny on the key cap which is another problem if you are an older person who wears glasses. You end up taking your glasses off to see some parts and putting them back on for others.

I solved this by getting some mx cherry compatible keys and swapping the majority of them over but some have a metal bar under them so those I left. I am not sure if this effects the warranty at all – probably. I guess most people will be fine with the key caps but some may struggle unless you’re a touch typist that is. It is not worth missing out on this keyboard for this I think but I hope they address this in a future revision to please more customers.
Lastly the software is very easy and intuitive to use and gives you access to some great effects that this keyboard can achieve make me want to get a razer mouse next time I need one so that it all matches and syncs together.

Very solid keyboard expensive but worth it if you in the razer ecosystem but for me I moved over to a different daily driver mostly reluctantly I must add
