The first offspring in the StarCraft series came out on 31 March 1998 and was a great success for Blizzard, especially in South Korea, where the game is still being played. Two further expansion packages, called Insurrection and the Brood War, were launched later in 1998. The real-time strategy game also got a sequel with StarCraft 2, which was developed over many years and released in 2010.
In honour of launching StarCraft two decades ago, Blizzard has released additional, free content for several of its games, although these are mainly cosmetic elements. Among others World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Overwatch, Diablo 3, Heroes of the Storm and StarCraft 2 get things like new skins or an extra pet. Players only need to log in at the right time: Polygon has created a list of when players need to log in to get the extra content.
Last year, Blizzard released a new version of the original StarCraft game. In doing so, the publisher wanted to offer a variant with polished graphics, improved audio and more functionality for online access. The Remastered version is compatible with the original game, allowing players to compete against each other. If you have the Remastered version and log in after March 6th, you will be given a special skin to celebrate StarCraft's birthday.
