D&D Podcasts: Critical Role.

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

I own nothing of the video or podcast - all claims to the content is purely owned by Critical Role and Geek & Sundry, but I certainly love the series to try to share it around. Join us. Become a critter. Always roll nat 20's, always dread nat 0's!

If you're a fan of D&D but not sure how the 5th Edition plays, Critical Role is a good introduction to it. As a long-time fan since they launched the podcast (I even own two of their exclusive posters), I can easily say it's inspired me quite a bit to consider world building of my own. I often listen to their episodes while I'm streaming my art, working on personal work, or if I wanted to just watch something ... Critical Role is my usual go-to.

I've always been interested in D&D (and by extension, their books, video games, table top, and card games themed in the same way) since my father used to go to every other day to a local game shop to play Magic the Gathering and D&D with friends.

This would allow me and my brother to either a) play in the arcade, or b) watch them play, quietly. It's certainly a good atmosphere to be raised in, encouraging young minds to explore their imagination and to be engaged with story telling.

This is a photo I took of my D&D Hero Forge Miniature.

Eventually, I even got a Miniature from Hero Forge for a D&D group I part-time DM'd (dungeon master) in. It's tough to be the puppeteer right off the bat; it involves a lot of world building (if you start from scratch) or access to the rule and resource books.

My character, Zekdaer Duskryn; is a Half-drow cleric devout to Pelor (Larthander in Forgotten Realms) who was raised by his parents, Jarzael Duskryn and Irene Autumnvale; on the surface world. Jarzael is renegade Drow wizard from the Underdark while and Irene is a devout paladin to Pelor from Waterdeep, part-time adventurer with her own crew. Since I moved, though ... I didn't get an opportunity to delve into my character's backstory.

Critical Role is a fantastic gateway into the world of D&D. There are also other podcasts, which I will certainly cover in future posts. For now, I'm wading through episodes of Crit Role armed with a box of tissues and a pint of mint ice cream.

Don't fool yourself, you'll get sucked in.
