Pacman's game first appeared in arcade machines in 1979 in Japan under the title Puck Man, which came from PakuPaku (Japanese) which means the act of opening and closing the mouth. This game was made by Tohru Iwanati for Japanese company Namco, officially released on May 22, 1980 in Japan and achieved success with 100,000 units sold that year.
