WTF?! FREESYNC IS SUCH A BIG BULLSHIT! eghm... partially...

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

The idea behind it is good. Those who experienced tearing know that freesync and gsync have the potential to be very useful, because that way you can give turn off the vsync option which eats a lot of processing power from the GPU. . I talked here about my unconventional setup.

What happened?

I was playing Witcher 3 and the fucking screen started to flicker at a really high frequency. I've started to search on the web about it and a lot...I MEAN A LOT of people have this problem (including those with GSYNC). I didn't want to go back to the old driver and try to fix the problem, so I just turned freesync off and vsync on.

Restult:

  • stable framerates (alot more stable considering that when it was raining I had drops from 60's to 40's)
  • no flickering at all

The most fucked up part is that the freesync works flawlessly in Metro 2033 Last Light, in which the vsync really fucks up the fps count and without it the tearing is terrible. So it's not good, but it's not bad either!? I am lying to myself now that is a new technology and maybe the engineers don't master it... But for fuck sake it has almost 3 years since first release...

In League of Legend I also experienced fps drops with freesync on.

I am going to leave a funny quote from wikipedia regarding freesync and a final conclusion:

FreeSync is royalty-free, free to use, and has no performance penalty.

Conlcusion: It seems like everything revolving this technology is 50% bullshit 50% good (even the fucking wiki article).

Please let me know your experience with freesync/gsync... I will keep you posted with another game... When I will be able to GTFO Withcer 3 lol.
