Free 2 Play Games that are MUCH BETTER than any Triple A Titles! - Gaming Top 5 - Part 45.

in #gaming7 years ago

There are a lot of AAA titles constantly being released, but sometimes there are even better Free To Play games to choose from.

The triple A market is something for big corporations to make some money, then after we pay the $100 or more for the game, they ram loot boxes and micro transactions down our necks, so that can squeeze even more money out of us, and sometimes the end product they churn out is either incomplete or sorely lacking in other areas, putting gamers off.

So here are 5 Free To Play Games that are much better than most Triple A games.

5 – Warframe.

PC, PS4, Xbox One.
This game just looks absolutely stunning. It is a third person shooter that dose not hold back and is epically addictive.
When the game was first released back in 2013, it was OK, but not fantastic, the visuals were good, but character development and the world in which you played were severely limited and it felt very repetitive. Fast forward 5 years, with a few updates, it is now a monster of a game, the narrow corridors have been expanded into a seemingly endless world for you to explore, the characters and weaponry are freaking amazing and the whole game not only looks shit loads better than what it did, but also feels so much smoother to play. Yes there are micro transactions and loot boxes, but they aren't shoved in your face. (like some EA!),
if you are pissed off with the shit DLC in Destiny 2 and how boring it is to play, this game should be your go to as it eats destiny 2 for breakfast and shits out something much better.

4 – Path of Exile.

PC Only.
If you were a fan of the Diablo series and thought it was missing that personal touch? Well now your dreams can come true in this title.
The game itself is loosely based on the Diablo games and borrows many of the games features, abilities and locations. A top down slash and hack, action RPG that lets you select and customize your character from a vary wide selection of classes, and after a brief tutorial, you can get to work fighting anything and everything trying to find out where them giant living statues/titans are for you to kill. The higher your level, the higher grade of loot you will receive. It is Diablo on steroids.
Again, there are loot boxes, but again, they are purely optional for you to search out, not pasted to your eyelids (EA), and you are not restricted in any way in terms of game play and levelling up, all loot boxes are cosmetic only and they will never require you to pay for content.

3 – Star Wars The Old Republic.

PC Only.
If like me and many other fans of the star wars universe are sick to the back teeth of EA's over indulgence in Loot Boxes, then you should consider playing this game from Bioware, the company behind the Mass effect games.(no EA in sight)
This is the spiritual successor of the Knights of the Old Republic game. Quite possibly the best stand alone star wars game ever. It is a MMORPG that is litterally endless. You have the option of choosing various classes and races, Sith, Jedi, Bounty Hunter, each have sub categories to choose from, all which are customisable, from face to feet, each world you visit is massive and you can spend weeks playing quests on just one world, and there is plenty more to visit. Each quest lets you interact with the characters, your choices determine how you are perceived and determine the outcome of certain quests. Along side a very packed trade hub where you can buy and sell all sorts of swag and customize your character or weapons even further. There is more content than there are blades of grass on the planet....
You will loose weeks if not months to this game, and all without a loot box in sight.

2 – World of Tanks/War Ships/WarPlanes.

PC, Xbox One.
I have included all three of Wargaming.net's games in here as they are all basically the same game, but with obvious and some subtle differences.
Each game has the same high level of graphical and audio detail with awesome game mechanics. Each of the games are essentially team death matches with 6 – 10 players on each team depending on the game. World of Tanks is a medium paced game that lets you drive various tanks from different countries in various arena maps, complete with destructive objects such as trees, cars, lights, houses and such. World of Warplanes is very fast paced as you would expect, with various maps with mountainous terrains, flying planes from history. Finally World of War Ships is a game I have been playing more of recently, it is slow paced, but it is for those that like to think three moves ahead of the other player, again various maps and ships from various countries.
Weather it is a plane, ship or tank, you have to level up to get the next tier and on to bigger and better stuff, and the only way to do that is to go and shoot someone out of the sky, water or land. It is epic fun and can keep you entertained for longer than you would think possible.

1 – Guild Wars 2.

PC. OS X.
This game has been about since 2012 and it has constantly gained traction with every year to the point of being a possible successor to World of Warcraft in the Fantasy MMORPG stadium.
Originally the game was a pay to play game, costing about $30 for that privilege. But once the huge ass expansion pack came out in 2015/16 (I can't remember what year) it was then labelled as free to play and straight away saw a massive influx of players coming over to see what all the fuss was about, many of whom were dedicated WoW players who wanted to start playing something that was a little more ''grown up'' while still having that fantasy vibe.
With the devs behind the game constantly working, the game has seen huge improvements in graphics, voice acting, mechanics and smoothness. As an added plus, the game is also capable of being played in 4k for those gamers that demand nothing but the best performance from the games they play.
All this adds up to a game that could very well replace the king of MMORPG's, World of Warcraft with ease if it desired.
The game is full of everything you would expect from a period style fantasy game, dragons, magic, trolls, dwarfs, knights, maidens, demons, all manor of creatures and so much more. And this is why it is at number one in this list.

I honestly believe triple A games have a lot to answer for when they shove over priced micro transactions and loot boxes in our face. Even more so when it gives a game a pay to win aspect to it. Free to play games on the other hand require micro transactions to pay for the games ongoing development, so it is not that much of a big deal. But if done right, like in guild wars 2 and path of exile, the money you spend is purely for cosmetic changes and don't influence the games outcome. Probably why I only ever play solo campaign style triple A games and select free to play ones too.

Thanks for reading.

Good pick, but I must say I could never get World of Tanks. I tried playing it once and it was honestly quite boring...

Another superb post, sorry for my lack of comments recently I'm kind of swamped with things to do. I really like Star Wars Battlefront 2 - even if I have barely played it since it came out! Quite tempted to try The Old Republic - but seriously some nights I'm cutting my sleep to 4 hours to try and keep up with steemit - so much to do!

I played the absolute heck out of Warframe for ages and loved It. Then along came the Plaines Of Eidolon update and I didn't have enough room on my PS4 since It was such a big update and i never played It after that. I still have It Installed but I'm enjoying playing so many different games at the minute. Hopefully I'll jump back on It soon. Great post pal, I'll have to check out the other titles here.

This is a good list of games. Warframe is my personal favorite. It just strikes a good balance between being too grindy and being too easy. I like to work for stuff in games. The free to play model is also the best I‘ve seen yet. I haven‘t spent any money on the game yet and never felt like I had to.

Warframe... brings back memories. Wonder if my beta account is still active gotta check it out.

A very nice list, I am always looking for free games to play when I go on my gaming binge. Just to clarify free to play means online only?
