Cuphead Review : Don't Deal With The Devil
Hey Steemers, today I am going to share with you my views about the game called Cuphead, developed by StudioMDHR.
First of all what would you think about a game with an art style reminiscent of the old 1930's mixed with bullet hell type of shooting mechanics?Well If your answer is why the hell would I play an ancient looking game with two silly looking characters?Well don't be deceived by the cartoonish artstyle, you are in for a ride of countless button mashing and frustration.
Spoiler alert, the game starts by the two Cuphead brothers gambling in devil's casino and by unfortunate turn of events mortgaging their souls to the devil. So the very premise of the game revolves around the two brothers beating other characters to collect their soul in return for devil to release their soul.
Earlier I told you not to be deceived by the coverwork, what could a childish looking game offer? Well pure gaming hell, the game is hellishly difficult, without proper timing and concentration expect yourself to throw your consoles out of the window, once the bosses starts killing you over and over.
The game is essentially an platformer type of game with shooting mechanics, the game world is divided into a variety of island , where you meet a bunch of interesting characters and fight with them to collect their soul. The boss are divided into stages , in each stage the boss may change shape and strategy. This forms the main bulk of the gameplay. Then there are "run and gun" stages which I found very hard myself to master.Sometimes the stages have you fighting on a airplane.Sounds cool right? The character can shoot and there is an interesting mechanic called parrying which essentially involves tapping the party button over pink projectiles, which fills the super meter, leading to a super attack. The game also has upgrade mechanics which is common these days, such as shotgun type projectile, long range projectiles etc but you should have coins which are in short supply. While exploring the gamescape you may come across secret areas which provide coins and other benefits.
One of the games many boss fights.
There are two difficulty modes : simple and regular, mind you playing on simple is easy but it offers roughly 10 percent less content.
Well the game is a good if you are out for an indie game, the pros are:
1.Good artstyle and gameplay.
2.Interesting characters.
3.Unique boss fights.
As far as cons are concerned:
1.Difficult to master.
2.Frustrating at times.
3.Poor replay value.
The game is available for Windows and Xbox One.
So are you ready to deal with the devil yet?
