"What is it that the people really liked about Bad Company?" or Helping Dice Figure Out What Made Bad Company Amazing (PART I - THE INTRODUCTION)

The Marketing Strategy of Leaking Stuff

December greeted Battlefield fans with a thunder. This thunder we heard and we remembered well because of how accurately it struck before. This thunders name is AlmightyDaq, he is a YouTuber and he was the person who leaked information on or predicted with awesome clairvoyance the Battlefield 1 (2016). And again, on December 11th he posted a video titled Dice LA's Battlefield Leaked Insider BFBC3 information. Panties were dropped, boxers were stained to say the least about the general joy in Battlefield community.

Battlefield fans have many ladies of their hearts, some of them broken and mangled, left in a ditch on the side of a road.

In chronological order the three fan favorite games* in Battlefield series were Battlefield 1942 (2002), Battlefield 2 (2005) and the hero of this post - Battlefield Bad Company 2 (2010).**

It's been EIGHT YEARS since the last BF game which was warmly received by the general public. We had BF3 in 2011, BF4 in 2013, BF Hardline in 2015 and BF1 in 2016 and yet they just... didn't stick. Yes, BF3 was a very welcome return to open scenery after relatively claustrophobic Bad Company. Yes, BF4 was pretty much fixed and still has tens of thousands od players. Yes, BF1 is still supported and expansions are developed with the last major one coming in February, almost one and a half year after release of the base game.

But in 10 years time will anyone still play those games like they play Bf1942, BF2 and BFBC2?

Some will, yes, even I'll revisit them, but they won't be as popular.

I rest my case, your honor.

What The Heck Are You On About, Can You Get To The Point?

My point is that if AlmightyDaq is right once again, either DICE has figure out why people like Bad Company 2 or EA realized that it can make them a shitload of money. Either way in the next few posts I want to figure out what IS Battlefield series, what IS Bad Company 2. What makes them tick and tock. What makes them so beloved. How putting one foot out of the Battlefield formula made Bad Company 2 amazing still.

And then, when the day comes, I will use that to either crap on or praise the Battlefield Bad Company 3.

*And they still have maaaad playerbases. Even if EA/DICE pulled the plug on them, you can still find Relieve and other communities which keep up the private servers, vanilla and moded.

**You can argue about the place of Vietnam, 2142, BC1 and BF3 in the top three but the ones I listed are THE Battlefield games that everyone knows and most love.

It's funny cause lots of people think that Bad Company is a compromise between classic Battlefield "real battlefield" format and CoD like scale, perks and such. I'll write about this in incoming parts, stay tuned and thanks for invitation, I'll surely check out the discord :)
