The Process of Planting Vanilla Cuttings in Polybags
- Vanilla Seeds
For vanilla seeds themselves, it is very easy to get, to make it more practical you can buy vanilla seeds in the form of cuttings in a plant store or farm coprasi. But if you want to plant it from seeds, then choose vanilla seeds that are old and dried in the sun first. By using vanilla seeds directly besides being difficult, this will also take longer. Then you should choose vanilla seeds in the form of cuttings. Following are the steps in choosing quality vanilla seeds
Pay attention to the cuttings you bought and make sure the cuttings are not defective or damaged at all.
Also make sure that the cuttings you choose are high-quality cuttings that are suitable for planting, with characteristics that the vanilla cuttings are about 30 to 40 cm long.
Besides buying cuttings, you can also get cuttings from vanilla plants directly if you or your neighbors and relatives have vanilla plants.
Cuttings taken directly from the tree must be old stems with the size of the parent tree that have reached a height of approximately 2 to 3m or more.
- Vanilla planting
To plant it in the yard, of course with the land that you have prepared as in the above step, pay attention first to the moisture of the soil.
If the soil starts to dry, then you need to water it. And before planting seeds, you need to provide additional fertilizer on the soil while stretching the soil again.
After that, make a planting hole in your field, try to make the hole size not too big and not too small. Plant vanilla seedlings in holes and pile holes with soil and compact them a little so that the seeds can stand firm.
After that tancapjan wood or support poles near the seed cuttings and tie it with raffia rope and if necessary guide the branches in vanilla in growth so that it can grow horizontally.
If you do not have land, the next way to plant is to use a pot.
The first step is to prepare a rather large sized pot because the vanilla plants can reach a height of more than 4m.
Fill the pot with soil mixed with compost or manure and husk with a ratio of 2: 1: 1.
Then make a planting hole with enough size, which is not too big or small. Then plant cuttings in the planting hole and cover with a mixture of fertilizer and husk, do not forget to compact the soil and stick the support such as wood or iron.
- Watering the plants
Pay attention to the condition of the soil before planting or pot. If it is very dry, you need to water a lot of water so that the soil becomes slightly moist.
But if the soil is not too dry, you can water it with a little water. Try to keep the soil too dry but not too wet.
You can adjust it to the weather conditions when you are planting vanilla. If at that time the weather is raining, then you only need to water it once and not even need to water it if the soil conditions are still moist and vice versa.
Normally you only need to pour vanilla twice a day.
- Give fertilizer to vanilla plants
Fertilize vanilla every 2 weeks after plants aged 3 to 5 months use manure or compost.
If the plants are still planted, then you have to fertilize once a week.
and the last is vanilla harvest
You can harvest vanilla after the plants are approximately 2 to 3 years after the planting period and after that, the harvest can be done once a year with a harvest time of 2 to 3 full months. Vanilla fruit that is ready to harvest has green fruit with yellow shoots.
