A surprising little bounty.
Dashing out between rain showers to get some of these poor sun-starved tomato seedlings out into the ground, I pulled up one of our carrots.
We don't have the deepest, or the richest soil in this little patch out the front of our flat, but we had scattered a few seeds around just to have the ground covered through the cooler months while we were away enjoying the French sun. We haven't had great luck with carrots in the past, thanks to slugs or weather, but these greens were bright and bushy.
Some fantastically funky looking specimens. The rich carroty smell coming off them is fantastic. It should be enough for a tasty side dish. A pleasant little surprise for a rainy Saturday.
Best thing is the tomatoes got plonked in the spaces left by the carrots. Bring on the sun!

For curation under the @gardening-trail, can you add a statement about the source of your photos? I figure these are all yours, of course. But doing this regularly will help everyone, including people new to Steemit, appreciate original contributions. If you can add a statement like that, I'm happy to recommend your post for the SteemTrail curation. You can read our full guidelines here Thanks!
Nice to find those surprises in the garden, especially at the end of the season.
It looks like you chose a good variety of carrots for soil that's not so deep. They are nice and stocky. And good work in getting those tomatoes in, during the rain.
By accident, mostly :) But that's another dimension to think about, which varieties will do best in different zones of your garden.
