in #gardening6 years ago

The Fairy Crassula originates from the mountain regions of Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. This uniformed, compact, fast growing, rapidly spreading ground cover is a favourite for succulent lovers.

This beauty enjoys shade, is frost and drought hardy, evergreen, a perennial, free seeding and easy rooting. There are over 180 species and they are popular in rock gardens, hanging baskets and containers.

The Fairy Crassula have charming, dainty little pink buds during winter and opens to white star like flowers. It blooms in masses above the leaves from thin long red stems at the start of autumn.

The leaves are a glossy light or dark green (depending on the amount of sun they receive); are broad, oval and round, and have water secreting pores which helps with absorption. They grow in opposite pairs, have small red markings on the upper surface and is about 3.5cm long.

It is a low maintenance plant which thrives in semi shade, well-drained soil, and moderate watering.

They provide bees, insects and birds with pollen and nectar during the dry seasons and also serves as a larval host plant for butterflies and moths.
