How's YOUR border garden looking? Here are a few shots of mine...

in #gardening5 years ago (edited)

Well it's officially fall (tomorrow) and because of the fair amount of rain that we got here in NJ, the garden is none the worse for wear for this time of year.

THe showoff at this time of year is the Caryopteris "Longwood Blue" which is just luscious! What a blue!

And look what came back...the cardinal digitalis! It's the red flower peaking thru. I noticed that it is spreading (lots of green basil growth around the base of the plant) so next year there should be a lot more. The red attracts hummingbirds.

And the sedum "Autumn Joy"(the pink mass) is looking well - the trick here is that I cut it all down by half in late May/early June so that it doesn't get too leggy by this time of year.

Below is the view looking back...I lost a large oakleaf hydrangea. There is still one you can see - leaves turning red already. I did plant some new ones to fill in, but can't be seen in this photo.

So how is YOUR border garden? post pics below. And ask questions about any plant you see in my photos or any other gardening question....I'll try to answer ;0)

Happy gardening everyone!

OH! and apropos of nothing.....I almost forgot! Look at this dragonfly I spotted the other day! The wings were just glistening

Looks good to see all the colors in the border :-)

Awesome. I love the dragonfly. Sorry I missed this one!

thanks old-guy! sorry to respond so late...i've been on vacay!

Well sound like you taught that Lyme disease who is boss! :D I am happy about that!

Doesn't fall start on Monday? At least that's what Siri told me 🤷‍♂️. Beautiful garden!

lol, I"m sure that's tru! I just figured it was Sept 21 - close enough!

Yeah, close enough 😆. Still gonna be in the 90s here all next week though, so I'm not counting at "officially fall" yet anyways lol

Very beautiful garden. Nice work! I had Longwood Blue in my last garden. I'd forgotten how lovely a blue it is.
Unfortunately, my garden is a mess now! The ticks have driven me out of my garden.

I got Lyme disease this summer! luckily got on 3 weeks antibiotics early on.

Been there, done that too many times already. I try to get all my work done in one day, and I poison up good for that day, then come in and take a scrubby shower. But that is not as much fun as puttering around when the mood strikes.
But, you do get to have a very beautiful yard for your efforts.

You have a beautiful garden :)

thanks karenb! sorry to respond so late...we were lucky to be away on vacay for a while ;-)

Hope you enjoyed your holiday :)

That's a lovely border garden!

thanks amberyooper!

That dragonfly photo is really cool, the way it is on the fence!

I have serious border envy! That blue is just luscious! Your Autumn Joy's have a nicer pink color than mine do.

Loved the tour of the border. :))

thanks goldenoakfarm! sorry to reply so late- we were away on vacay!!

Lovely garden surrounding your yard. We just started taking out a lot of the annuals and trimming our perennials. They are very much at the end of the cycle for the year. It is hard to believe Fall is here already. Have a great weekend.

thanks sunscape! It's def starting to look raggedy especially since there have been weeks of no rain (until yesterday). also, sorry to repsond so late. we were away on vacay.

That's so wonderful it has got its own charm amazing

thanks blazing!
