Propagating a tree from a Limb

in #gardening6 years ago

Bob will show you a technique to create a new tree by growing a “root ball” on a limb. In this demonstration, he is propagating a new tree from the limb of a holly tree. This technique can also be easily done on fig trees and other trees. He strips the bark around a sturdy limb and puts a plastic bottle around it, taping it on with duct tape. He then adds a 'growing medium" inside the bottle, against the limb and waters it in. In about 3 weeks to 2 months, a root ball will form after which he cuts the limb below the newly formed root ball, then plants it in the ground.
