The end of days

in #gems5 years ago

A column of smoke rose, the cold place now painted black. One man stood firmly on the hill. He only got there to watch the crash.

There was not much else to see, just dust and ashes in the air. A lot of animals of all kinds could be seen wandering through the apocalyptic landscape.

He took one hand to his chest and let out a small spontaneous laugh. I did it, he thought.

It seems that what that little grey man had said about the control he held between his fingers was true. Everything was annihilated, only the animals survived as he had programmed the apocalypse.

He took a deep breath and looked up at the sky, blackened by ash and smoke. He was really convinced that he had done the right thing.

I walk down the hill with the expression on my face of a man who was completely fulfilled. Now there was only one thing left to do, one last act of redemption for a corrupt civilization such as the one to which he belonged.

When he had come down the slope a deer approached him discreetly. He stared at its eyes. He could reflect his worldly life in those little innocent mirrors.

I take a deep breath. He pulled out his gun and guided the barrel between his eyebrows. He pulled the trigger.
