Genealogy: Isabelle Foster (1862)

I'm experimenting with posting some random bits of my genealogy research here.

This individual falls within a sort of ideal time for genealogy research. Mainly because their life overlapped an era when census records started to be more complete and available...minus the civil war of course. The mid to late 1800s are often an easy time to find, at the very least, census info for individuals you are researching. This can make it easier to track down other records, discover parents, siblings, children, etc. since they are often in the same household.

The info in the source references below is from Isabelle Foster's Great Grandmother who also had the last name of Foster. According to Gramps, Isabelle is my third cousin four times removed.

I use GenoPro to maintain my family tree but I use other programs to generate reports/web pages. Gramps is open source software for Windows, Linux and MacOS that I have been using to generate static HTML reports and is what the info you see below is based on. I also use its relationship calculator functionality. I've also been exploring GedSite, a program that takes a gedcom file and converts it into html, and The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding which is web based and requires a setup with a web server, php and mysql. Mostly I've been playing around with TNG but I'll get back to GedSite eventually.

When it comes to converting this stuff to web pages, every piece of software available seems to have advantages and disadvantages and it is hard to settle on just one. One of the things I like about TNG is how you can easily switch between different chart styles. I've already shown most of the various ancestor charts it produces and I swear I'll start showing descendant charts as soon as I happen to pick a good candidate. This is not a good candidate as I have no descendants for them yet. The ancestor chart above is from Gramps and the one I usually show though I may switch over to using one of the TNG charts regularly.
