Wikitree - Connect-a-thon results - Century Breakdown

In July, the Wikitree community added 95,575 profiles over the space of 72 hours during their third 2023 Connect-a-thon challenge.

19-20th centuries

During the thon, most profiles were created from the 19th and 20th centuries. This is unsurprising, as these records are the easiest to find online.

  • 58,976 profiles were created from the 19th century
  • 25,984 profiles were created from the 20th century.

Impressively, some of the older centuries still had additions to them, which is fantastically vital for the connected-ness of our shared family tree. Here are the birth countries of those older centuries:

18th century

6,790 new profiles created, predominantly from the England, the United States of America and the Holy Roman Empire. From this large grouping there were also a few new profiles created in lesser-represented countries including Cuba, Czech Republic, Haiti, Barbados and Russia.

17th century

1,186 new profiles created, predominantly from the Holy Roman Empire, England and Germany.

16th century

151 new profiles created, predominantly from England, Switzerland and the Holy Roman Empire. The most common surnames added to this century were Abbühl (Swiss), Schnerring (HRE) and Polwhele (English).

15th century

1 new profile from Salisbury, Wiltshire, England with the surname Batt.

14th century

3 new profiles from Ireland. Two of them with the surname de Bermingham and the other Lacy.

13th century

2 new profiles from Wales. One from Deheubarth and the other from Pembrokshire. Surnames were ap Rhys Gryg and Wogan

9-12th centuries

65 new profiles almost all from Ireland. If you are familiar with Clann Cholmáin or Nechtain, check these out!

Lastly...

If you are somehow connected to the Swiss surname Zumbrunnen this is the event you've been waiting for!
233 Zumbrunnens were added to Wikitree during the thon. Prior to the event, there were only 140 on the site. Anyone with Swiss heritage may see their connections have increased over the weekend! How exciting.
